Hey guys so for any one wondering how to prevent drop eye it’s super simple so the build up of fatty tissue behind the eye is from fatty foods like shrimp, salmon and anything with a high percentage of fat so try to not feed them these foods too much and also enclosure design, a pond is best for these guys so that they can see what they are looking at straight on instead of below like a tank.

I came to this because I woke up curious after reading an article yesterday about a man and his Arowana fish and how he had to take it to get a procedure for its eyes. Im curious to know how the fish lives out the water. How the fish gets surgery out the water, or if they do surgery in the water. I’m just so amazed and had no clue that we can do surgery on a fish!!! I thought they just die when they are out the water for too long. I didn’t know you could literally put a fish to sleep and do surgery on it, then put it back in the water and it will wake back up and live! That’s wild!!!!!!!

so would this like be like a lipoma behind the eye ball? The eyeball seemed to go back fairly easily, is there a reason it did that right away ? cutting the fins as that a defect within it's genes and the cutting needed to be done to help it function better? There's a lot of of qs but i haven't seen anything like this before
@zerberus25254 жыл бұрын
Its build up fat diff reasons for that + those fish naturally look whats above and not under them = high tank/setup + sinking foods and all that crap can make drop eyes....the cutting simply for owner to make fins pretty...both of those two impacts are simply owner needs...not fish needs...especially with that species...a bunch freaks outta there playing frankenstein...
@SarahG11834 жыл бұрын
@@zerberus2525 complete lay person here, so they can get the fat build up not for genetic reasons more because of how they use their eyes. I've never seen anything like this before. Is it normal to do this on fish or is it simply for cosmetic reasons? also with the tranquilizer is it normal for the fish to go completely upside down? I didn't know you could put tranquilizer in the water so that you could do procedures. People below are talking about dropping the fish hard, i'm watching and i don't know what i'm looking for. ( was it when the fish jumped out of the tank?) Thanks for your response it's fascinating
@zerberus25254 жыл бұрын
@@SarahG1183 there are species that have genetic problems with eyes yes, but with arowana its a "standard", it doesnt affect the fish much so yes cosmetic reasons only (special stuff pops always up so lets say 50/50). This species goes hunting while rivers are flooded, insects sitting 10cm above waterline or falling in, everything happens above them, "to big" to get hunted so they keep actively hunting and checking surface for food, so looking down in a tank constantly for sunken food (here pops in the fatty stuff) combined with mentioned fat foods ends most of the times with drop eyes.. the fin cutting stuff is cosmetic as well, simply its like cutting hairs, makes them stronger/more growth/better growth those are like bodymodifications...yes you can put fish aside with stuff like that, well dosed for "real surgeries" or cosmetic-"help" like the vid or overdosed as euthanasia
@zerberus25254 жыл бұрын
@@SarahG1183 oh and sorry yes there are surgeries that are done on fish, next big game is koi's but as i know there is less survival with big surgeries like cutting out abnormal growth inside the fish or everything that ends in opening the fish, a good amount dies in 2-10yrs (big number bc i dont know the exact ones) because of bacterial issue, wounds are not healing up good, wound keeps cracking up, so stuff like this is like playing lottery, you could win and give the fish another few month-yrs but it could go horrible wrong too, as said its a gamble game...and fascinating. There are some real vets (doc's) that focusing on fish surgeries and fishstuff only too, so there is for sure a good success
