This is wonderful and very great music. Smetana is probably the most underestimated composer of the 19th century. It is a crying shame that this music is hardly ever performed outside of Czechia.

But she's a goddess!!! Especially from 7:05 to the end, I was just holding my breath! There is no word any more, for Smetana, and for Milada Šubrtová. I'm not czech, I don't have any relationship with this people, but seeing that scene, I would like to be czech! Smetana wanted to make THE patriotic czech opera, he performed the feat!

Splendid. The defiance of the Czechs in the face of the Soviets can be heard in the final bars. I've never heard them so stirringly played.

I love how the audience starts clapping at 11:29 and never stops clapping after that - a full 45 seconds BEFORE the end of the piece! Those were dark days indeed... hope was the only thing they could hold onto and who knew that it would be another 20+ years before they would regain their freedom from the tyranny of the Soviet menace?

It had got a little bit different connotation in the time of oppresion by Russians, we can see it in the eyes of Subrtova 11:20 - there are the strongest words "Czech nation survive" and 11:35 she is crying. The reason, why Russians couldn't forbide it, is, that Libuse is Czech national opera and therefore is played only in few possible dates - mainly on 28th of October in the date of establishment of Czechoslovakia. EVERY Czech can understand, that words are sung against occupation.

Lo más importante para entender esta versión es el momento en que representó: el estreno con este elenco fue 2 meses después de la INVASIÓN del ejército ruso a Checoslovaquia en 1968. Al final, Libuse, en su última profecía, dice: "¿Qué más? La niebla oculta el futuro a mis ojos y muchas cosas se esconden a mi vista, secretos horribles... ¡maldiciones tal vez! Pero, suceda lo que suceda, así lo presiento en lo profundo de mi corazón, mi querido pueblo checo no perecerá jamás, ¡porque hasta los horrores del infierno siempre los podrá resistir!" El pueblo checo ha sufrido mucho durante siglos de ocupación, primero por los austriacos, luego los nazis, luego los rusos... Libuse representa la lucha por su libertad, por eso es su ópera nacional, casi sagrada... Las lágrimas de Milada Subrtová y los aplausos del público desde la última profecía hasta el final de la ópera lo dice todo... resistieron y lucharon y vieron por fin la nación Checa libre de nuevo.

The most important for understanding this piece is the time when it was made - the premiere with this cast was 2 months after the INVASION of Russian army to the Czechoslovakia in 1968. At the end Libuse, mythical princess of Czech nation, is making a "prophecy". It is possibe to hear a quote form Smetana's Blanik (My Country) in the time 7:35 and afterwards, and she sings: "Czech nation survive!"

That's Milada Šubrtová - our opera singer in the Czech Republic. This whole opera is called "Libuše" . Libuše is actually the name of a woman who fortold where the city Prague is going to be situated. It's a legend. In this video she's singing mostly about Gods. Poweful Gods.

It is said that Libuše was a powerful ruler of the Czech lands, she could forsay the future and was very wise, however men of the tribe didn't like a female ruler so she had to marry a man (Přemysl Oráč). They loved each other and ruled together wisely. I believe the opera says the whole story. This part is from the end of the opera, she sings her prophecy to gods.
