Structuralism is a Literary Theory that could take an entire semester of study. With this in mind, we're going to try to keep this lesson as simple as possible. Structuralist theorists are interested in identifying and analyzing the structures that underlie all cultural phenomena-and not just literature. They want to understand the "deep structure" of football games. Of families. Of political systems. Of fashion. Of chemistry classes and of theory study guides.
If you're a theorist, then you should extra care about structuralism. Because without structuralism, we wouldn't have a whole bunch of other pretty important theories. Heard of post-structuralism? That's the one that came after structuralism. Deconstruction? Another way of saying not-structuralism. Queer theory? That one's totally related too. So, none of those would exist if it weren't for structuralism.

I truly appreciate how you explain structuralism from literary point of view. There are numerous other videos on the topic but they discuss structuralism from broader perspective which complicates it to some extent. Thank you.

Thanks for the video, but I think you skipped the most important concept about the structuralism that in structuralism things are understood as they are part a larger structure, i.e., they cannot be understood in isolation but as part the larger structure.

Your videos are more interesting, easy to understand, with examples to make me understand. Well done! This is the best video among all other videos on KZbin in explaining structuralism.
