Array of HAXELs

We show here an array of sub-mm thick flexible hydraulically-amplified electrostatic actuators for haptic s (HAXELs), that can be placed on the body (eg glove or sleeve) for rich haptic feedback.
HAXELS are electrically driven: no pumps or compressors!
Each 6 mm x 6 mm x 0.8 mm actuator weighs 90 mg, generates forces of over 300 mN, out-of-plane displacements of 500 µm (over 60 % strain).
