Tough choice! Both great options! If you have the cash go for Skypanel. If you want a slightly smaller lighter fixture go for the Gemini 😃👍

Cool Review :) . A few thoughts. Because the S60 is a RGBW light and the Gemini is a RGBWW (two whites vs one in the S60) they are very comparable brightness wise in bi-colour but the Gemini is much less bright in Saturated Colour. Fan noise - Gemini seems quieter :). Power - I've used a S60 plate on a 1x1 Gemini with a custom cable - Should be fine for the 1x2 Gemini if you want to avoid block batteries up to about 90% of full power. Thanks for the detailed review - loved it.

Thanks Peter! Glad to hear you liked the review. You make a good point about the saturated color brightness. I haven't tried that trick with the custom cable, but I'm tempted to give it a go on our Gemini 2x1. Haven't personally had much issue with fan noise on either, but interesting to hear that about the Gemini. Thanks so much for your support. Have a good one!

The light pannel looks like a more user friendly with the controls on a better accessible position. And most lighter including integrated power mount. And those buttons to jump from warm to daylight is good. But it looks like I'm color matching and intensity the sky pannel is ahead. When it comes to to lot of lights and matching up temperature then skypanel seems to be the better pick.

Praveen Venugopal thanks for the comment! That’s generally our consensus as well. The Litepanels Gemini is great for one band banding as it doesn’t have the external ballast and is lighter. But it is nice to have a little extra output on the Skypanel for certain situations. The color is pretty close on both. Anyway thanks for watching!

Its worth mentioning neither have any form of weather sealing what so ever. There are metal hoods you can get for the s60 but are pretty ineffective.
@FilmJams5 жыл бұрын
Very true! I have filmed a few times with both in the rain and they have gotten wet a bit, and didn't have any issues. But for any heavy rain, that metal hood sounds like a good option! Don't want these babies to short circuit.

You rate the sky panel in tungsten mode at 94 cri, that’s odd since Arri(last I checked) and other channel’s has it rated in the 80’s cri range. Did arri do a firmware update to improve this?
@FilmJams5 жыл бұрын
memcrew1 we used the Sekonic c700 light meter to measure the CRI. Not sure how the others you mentioned measured theirs but that’s the result we got. And here is a link to ARRI’s website showing the CRI average is 95 according to their measurements: www.arri.com/en/lighting/led/skypanel/s60-c
@memcrew15 жыл бұрын
Film Jams I’m sorry I meant TLCI rating is not too good at the high 70’s to low 80’s in tungsten mode. Thanks for your response.
@FilmJams5 жыл бұрын
memcrew1 oh yes TLCI rating is a bit lower. Unfortunately I don’t think the C700 can measure TLCI but is definitely lower than the CRI I believe around 85-90.

Film Jams I guess the real question is how are skin tones reproduced with these panels? That is the true test(I think)
@FilmJams5 жыл бұрын
@@memcrew1 Skin tones look great on both, but Skypanel is a bit softer and also has options to add different diffusion panels...Skin tone, also depends on which camera you're using as well. The ARRI S60 is old technology! Very bad TLCI and LX compared to the new products from their competition!
@FilmJams4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say “bad”. The light is a true industry standard. Used on Star Wars, Blade Runner 2040, and some of the biggest movies of our time. It’s also more robust than anything out there (coming from a rental house perspective). What would you choose over a Skypanel S60?

These products don't come close to black body fixtures so don't even think about correct color rendering, all LED's are essentially the same, a near UV blue LED chips with a Yellow/Phosphor coating. Take a yellow gel with tungsten light, and a blue gel with tungsten light, combine on a white wall, you get white - this is what LED chip manufacturers are Trying to do. The manufacturing process is not precise so there are always variations. Your $2000 color meter is advertised a "spectrometer" but guess what folks, its not. It only has 3 photo cell sensors analyzing 3 narrow bands of the visual spectrum, there is no diffraction grating inside that thing. The color temperature readout is based on a CIE equation. So not only is it "correlated color temperature" which is is a fancy word for "looks like" 5000K but it's also wrong because the SPD spectral power distribution is only looking at 3 data points when you should have a minimum of 300. PS - the fact you have gaffers acting as salesmen- - All bets are off.
@FilmJams5 жыл бұрын
John Crawford hi John! You have an interesting perspective. I need to correct you on one point though. There is no salesperson here. Andrew is a friend of ours. And this test was completely independent. Wish we did get paid tho - it was a lot of work. In our experience, these lights have made some great pictures for us. If they don’t work for you, completely understand that. May each person have the tools that work best for them! Thanks for watching and take care.
@johncrawford71695 жыл бұрын
@@FilmJams We can talk about this until your blue in the face, from peddlers to Aristotle. But the fact is whether your getting paid or not, it's still a sales pitch. Most people especially in western democracies have a tendency to "sell", but the factual science behind this, granted, scientific journals, labs in universities and corporations, this is where I am coming from, I'm seeing a great deal misinformation on KZbin. The video style, it's vernacular and acting are attempting to get people to "buy" into these products. By the way, it may be impossible to determine color rendering capability with non full spectrum illuminates.
@FilmJams5 жыл бұрын
John Crawford just curious... what are your qualifications exactly? I’m not here to debate what we know to be true. The lights work great. The biggest DPs in the world use them - everything from the Oscar winning Blade Runner 2049 to the latest installments of Star Wars use these lights. I’m wondering why you are personally attacking them when they are obviously industry standard tools used by the best cinematographers in the world. Or are you just here to troll?
