Arriva Bus Driver of the Year 2016: Neil Atherton

As a result of a section of the busway closing around Runcorn, due to bridgeworks from the 1st of November for a period of 4-5 weeks, all our services have had to be diverted to operate via Second Avenue, which is situated underneath Halton Lea Shopping Centre in Runcorn.
This has caused confusion among our customers and we felt that we needed to put someone in place to ensure that everyone was looked after and knew where they were going. The ideal person for this position was Neil Atherton, who had recently won Driver of the Year at our M.A.D awards. When asked, Neil jumped at the chance, as he is a bit of a celebrity around here.
Since taking up the role, Neil has received hundreds of likes, shares & comments on Facebook. Not only do our customers love him but our staff are made up as well, as he cheers everyone up at what could have been a really difficult time.
All our staff have been a credit to Runcorn Garage and need a mention. Everybody has played a huge part in making sure everything has run as smoothly as possible.

arriva replace the buses in southend. seriously you cannot let drivers drive 30yr old buses with step entrances. think of the elderly or is DB holding back funding in the southend area because C2C is operated by national express?

That's where ur wrong, I know it's 2022 for me but he used to drive, he was one of my favourite bus drivers, he gave me money once as well when he dropped me off at Castlefields to go to school back in like 2013, this was when the top of the city was undergoing maintenance so the buses went near the police station and Neil Atherton was in charge of it
