President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with members of his official delegation, arrives at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) on October 8, 2024.
The President is in Laos to join fellow Leaders at the back-to-back 44th and 45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits upon the invitation of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, who chairs this year’s Summits. This year’s theme, ‘Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,’ aligns with Laos' commitment to building a more connected and resilient ASEAN.
During the three-day event, Leaders of ASEAN Member States, including Timor Leste as an observer, will convene in 16 leader-led engagements to discuss various international issues affecting the Region. These include the situation in Myanmar, Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula, Gaza and other geopolitical challenges impacting the Indo-Pacific region.
On the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, the President is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2024, which serves as a strategic platform to amplify the private sector’s voice in driving policy reforms and positioning ASEAN at the center of global economic interconnectedness.
President Marcos Jr. will also hold bilateral and pull-aside meetings with fellow Heads of State/Government from Vietnam, Canada, New Zealand and Japan. Additionally, he will meet with business leaders seeking to expand their businesses in the Philippines. And to mark his inaugural visit to Laos, he will meet with the Filipino community in Vientiane.
