The bearded guy running around with the expensive looking camera is award winning documentarian, Gary Kildea. Gary happens to be a good friend and he generously gave his time to come and video the arrival of our new Legend. The footage Gary shot is far superior to ours and will be uploaded when he finishes editing and polishing it.

Sorry, the lightest craft I've flown was a 1600 lbs. Gross Cessna 150. And THAT Sir is as small and light as I'm ever going to go! I hear that our FAA has plans to "Redefine" the whole LSA class. That's good! Because "Bigger" is indeed better!

Well, to each, his own. The beauty of flying LSA in Australia is that I can do my own maintenance. That saves a bundle of money! And who maintains an airplane better than the person who actually flies it? Our regulatory body are talking about lifting the LSA class to 750Kg (1653 lbs) but ... I think that is still a long way off. Also they're talking about access to controlled airspace for recreational pilots, but that's also a long way off yet. But if the 1600 lbs LSA comes into being, some of the lighter cessnas like the 152 will come into that. That will make them a lot more affordable if they keep the ruling that you can maintain your own airplane. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Don't forget to subscribe. Our traveling season is coming up so there will be new videos from that.

How on earth do the wings stay on? It looks like they are just bolted to the main frame I would have thought you would need some type of spar running into each wing.

Hi Dave: Thanks for stopping by and thanks for leaving a comment .. well, question really. The top structure of the Legend does indeed look underweight when viewed through pics and video. However, there are three steel rods webbed to the top of the cabin that connect to the wing structure. The wing is bolted to the front and rear steel rods with quite heavy bolts, while the middle rod acts like a locating and alignment pin. The cabin uprights also look understrength, but when you look at them, there is additional structure bonded to the inside of the pillars, very similar to how a car is constructed. These extra bits of structure are also made of carbon fibre and the whole is very strong. Also, as in cars, the windscreen and back window are glued in place and provide some extra strength there. And as an added extra, the whole cabin area of the fuselage is lined with an extra layer of Kevlar. The wings do have a spar in them, but not what you'd expect from a metal or wood wing. The wings are made from carbon fibre and most of their strength is in the skin. If you look at the building the legend video, you can see the spars. There is a long one and two short ones. This is where the wing attaches. And finally, as a strutted wing, the net force at the wing/cabin joint is actually downwards on top of the cabin. The main lifting force is transmitted through the struts to a massive carry through behind the seats that also attaches the landing gear.

@@FlyingAroundOz Thanks It just looks so fragile like the wings wouldn't hold the weight. I will look into that building the legend.
