There’s a foaming chain spray we use on bicycles gears chain everything moves that is metal let bicycles sit while dripping excess oil than spray off excess oil before putting back on boat protection from salt have used it for 25 years

Great islands and people. Did 2 tips during the Festival in July. Flew in from home in Hawaii and went directly to Bora Bora . Came flew back to meet my fiends on a 42 tri he built in Ali Wait. They had sailed in a week before so went to boat to ask pemision to come aboard. Denny replied and got onboard. I offs his wife and baby to go to my hotel and had a long hot shower. He was a master carpenter and built many new bars tehere. A few latter flew down again and s went crying . Great fun and guy.

Nothing wrong with protecting the chain and sprokets from rusting with WD40. Before the rust would be a great time! Adjusting the shifting system is usually a couple limit screws and a cable length adjustment or two. Great video!

Re: The bikes, you should buy some CorrosionX for your bike. Its a rust penetrant and preventative. Just put onto a rag and coat your gears or exposed metal areas. it will save them. You should have your bike below deck in a sail locker if possible. Leaving it on deck will destroy bikes.

Bobby, WD-40 is your friend, just spray down the bike before you put them away. Yes, I saw you put it on the chain. Remember, WD stands for Water Displacement.

WD stands for the greatest modern rip off of humankind (perpetrated by the British, who else). Just put any oil (like cooking oil) in it, it will be the same or better.

Working in a small lab in San Diego, California, it took them 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula worked out. I use Royal Purple for everything. A little more expensive but well worth it.

I highly recommend ensuring that your chains have a solid coating of grease and/or a thicker liquid lubricant. if you REALLY want to store them longer term and absolutlely don't want them to rust, then get a can of Cosmoline. Gross, sticky, nasty orange stuff and you will have to clean it off before using the bike again, but if you want to be absolutely sure they won't rust, use it, and then wrap the bike in a plastic bag for storage to seal out moist air.

Don't get beat up over the WD-40. WD-40 is a water displacement spray and not totally a true lubricant. That is what the WD stands for. When you buy WD-40, just look 2 to 3 feet left or right and get something that says 'lubricant'. It's just that easy. WD-40 does have a tiny bit of lubricant in it and it's way better to spray that on stuff than nothing at all.
