Great video! Can you please provide a link to the blacker washers assortment you mentioned, instead of using a vise on an rpm bumper for pieces?

Direct link to washer kit amzn.to/3rOwMq4 This washer kit is also extremely valuable regarding this video mod suggestion: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXWUYaFpr8t0rs0 Regarding using the smaller plastic washers as a fill-in instead of the piece that I ripped off of the RPM bumper. Just note that the pieces from the RPM bumper fit perfectly and provided an exact space fill in. I really wish I could’ve found something similar to its shape sold as a separate peace. I actually looked for quite some time. The washers being that they are flat will work as a fill in however you have to be aware that the pressure of the screw will squeeze it in the place and almost remold it. You’ll want to use one or two of the smaller washers. It’s less than a perfect gap fill in, however it’s better than nothing.

One of the reasons the screws are pulling through is that there is a gap under the bumper between the chassis and where the screws used to mount flush. You used the part that came off the bumper to pack this. Try using "Milliput". It is a two part epoxy modelling clay that sets hard. It's easy to work and provides a perfect fit.

The only thing that my concern is with this approach to fixing this problem is now since you've added the washer your screw doesnt lay flush or just a hair below the plastic, witch now the screw is going to grind away the head off when the chasis bottoms out now.

My RPM bumper is on the way, but I have sheared off the screws from the original bumper, and having trouble getting the aluminum pin holder out, so I can get ahold of the sheared screws... I believe 1 if my screws is mushroomed out just enough to lock it in. I'm wondering if that original aluminum block is just free floating? Should it just slide right off if the plastic pin holder is removed? Sry for the poor inflated description:) Edit: it was a mushroomed and bent screw, got them out:) 30 foot nose dive at the skate park broke 2 screws, this thing is a beast😬🤣

I’m down for checking this out. 👊😀 Got less then half way through. I want to add that doing this will always have the screws smashing the ground first / all the first will slam into the screws. Would that be a bad idea. I say that because my RPm bumper which you know has deep counter sunken screws for a reason. I replace mine when the screws just start to get scratched up from the bumper wearing out.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly... you make a pretty good point. That does explain probably why they are counter sunk in like that. I'll pay really close attention to this. Honestly I don't mind the screws taking wear. ill just replace them if they get too bad. But the idea of the ground smashing the screws upward and damaging the diff house, seems plausible. I myself have the aluminum RPM diff house's so I feel it's probably pretty unlikely. Another thing that gives me a sense of ease is that the washer themself, being metal will act as a protector of the screw from shifting upward from a hard smack. Will report if an issue arrises though thanks for the heads up.

Great video yet again 👍 Question though, wouldn't the screws need to be replaced by longer ones seeing as they now stick out a few extra mm?
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t hurt if you had 4 mm screws laying around that were 1 or 2 mm longer. However just 1 or 2 millimeter doesn’t really make much of a negative impact on the bite into the housing.
@iwantblue491
@iwantblue491 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics @simonthomas13 extending the screws is a very good Idea ! maybe not so much importance if like Randy, you have an upgraded aluminum dif housing, but into plastic, every mm will count, as by strengthening the screwhead-to-bumper pull through connection, youre moving the pressure to the next weakest point (the plastic diff housing threads in a standard Unit) so losing 2mm+ reduces the connection strength considerably. That's not to say it will definitely pull out the threads, but, as what you are doing is to improve the existing set-up, leaving any sort of weakness from the 'standard' is counter-intuitive & a negative point. I've seen some stuff suggesting there's actually quite a few mm unused in the housings with the standard screws as it is , so longer screws would definitely be an improvement. Great set of vids by the way 👍👍 As is covered further down though the screw heads are sunk into the bumper to protect them from physical bashing and wear, or leaving a sharp edge where a sudden stop could occur, but I appreciate they're only fractionally proud. Maybe swap the screws out for some titanium ones for added sparkage when and if they do ground out LOL
@EastTactics

So if there not tore just add a washer correct?
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
If you tore through one of your bumpers I would do away with it completely, contact RPM and have them send you a new one for free. What I recommend, once you’ve gotten your new RPM bumper Is that you first lay down the bumper. And then use either a plastic washer (or even better, take advantage of those torn wedges from the broken RPM bumper as a space filler) and then put down your counter sunk washer. Either way what I’m getting at, is that you do want to fill in that small space with something. If you don’t have any of those little miniature flat washers, or can pull those little wedges from the old bumper, then dig through your parts graveyard and see if you can find something tiny to fit in to fill in that gap. I noticed myself that I had a old RPM skid plate that had the same wedges that I could rip out using my voice. The point is I just don’t recommend having the air gap between the countersunk washers and how deeply sunk the RPM bumper holes are. If that makes sense.
@mattpotts8561
@mattpotts8561 3 жыл бұрын
So with a new rpm bumper, do you still need to use the plastic m4 washers? Or just the metal one under screw head.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
You’ll notice that I ripped the pre-existing plastic from the old RPM bumper and use it as a spacer. If you don’t have the ability to do that. Then I would suggest using a plastic m4 washer. So you’d slide the metal Timmerman washer on the screw first and then you would put the plastic m4 washer next as the spacer
@mattpotts8561
@mattpotts8561 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics gotcha, i tried the m4 washers but they dont fit well in the hole. And makes the screw stick further out. Wonder what will happen if you just use the metal washers and thats it? I seemed too tighten up fine but wanted too ask b4 i run it lol.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
That’s odd I really thought the M4 washer would get squeezed into the gap by the pressure. Without issue. Is it possible to put smaller washer, or something there. Ideally you want to fill that gap that way any major impact will utilize not just the Timmerman washer as rip prevention but the thickness of all the material combined with the timmerman washer for the maximum strength. Either way, if you bypass any spacer or material I still feel that the upgrade is better and stronger.
@mattpotts8561
@mattpotts8561 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics i have an m3, that may work i just will try to make the hole bigger for the screw, but i think the m3 washers will actually sit down in the hole. I guess that'll be ok? Or would you want it too act as a washers and sit on the outside of hole?

You make a great point, overtightening it’s definitely a bad idea. However trust me I didn’t overtighten, that was just a serious nose dive on some serious concrete. I’ve always been extremely impressed with the RPM bumper... still am. Now I definitely have confidence that if I duplicate that type of a nose dive again, it won’t rip out.
