SegaSonic the Hedgehog 3 player arcade game 60fps

Best viewed in 720p. I'm player 1, Mark is player 2 and Dee is player 3. This was played using joysticks instead of a trackball, and on MAME the diagonals are slightly off making it harder to play. Unfortunately, at the end of the game, we didn't originally make it to the end before time ran out, so I used a save state to do it over so I could actually show the end.

big red button developed the wii u sonic boom, fire and ice is by the 3DS boom devs. it was better than rise of lyric, but still very mediocre and i bet the new one will be too. also they probably started right after finishing shattered crystal, they really thought boom was going to be a success thats why they released a fuckton of merchandise as if they thought boom was going to sell like pokemon in the 90s.

Fun fact: in 0:18, what Eggman says on the second word is the name of whatever character is player 1's character. (It checks from left to right in order of players). Eggman has 3 different voice recordings, one for each playable character (Sonic, Ray, Mighty), it's just often player 1 will be playing as Sonic, as seen in this video.

While it's definitely designed like an arcade game, I like how it often sends you past a small version of the challenges in an auto scrolling section before giving you control to actually deal with them whenever it introduces something new. That's a very fair way to approach super punishing arcade style level design.

I actually think the worst part was that 2 of the diagonals are slightly off in MAME, so it was necessary to readjust constantly when running in those directions, although that emulation problem has the potential to be fixed. I think even a real arcade cabinet with a trackball still wouldn't be that all that easy to control, but I couldn't say for sure without trying it.

This is the first time I've ever seen footage of this game... I don't know what I was expecting, but this actually looks pretty fun. The animation looks fluid and the music's not bad, and it looks like there's real challenge in the gameplay. My only gripe, just watching it, is that movement's pretty choppy, what with the screen not budging until the last person in line starts moving. Maybe it's better in single player?

It's controlled using a track ball. You can imagine how painful it is, and the control scheme alone was the reason of the game never recieving a port.

Fun fact #2: Sega AM3 is the same in-house Sega dev that went on to make the Virtual On series. They even used the same "timing out on the final boss is instant game over" thing, and the animation looks great in both of those games as well. Also, they collaborated with AM4 to make Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns.

So basically Ray is Tails and Mighty is Knuckles. Somehow I never put the pieces together until I watched this playthrough. So hey, is this worth getting, or making a trackball? I'm not sure how well the game plays with one, or if it's worth the trouble.

for those who think mighty and ray were the same as sonic before sonic mania, here's some info: Mighty is a pacifist and he hates violence and thoughness, but if there's trouble or there's no other choice he will use his strenght and fighting skills. Ray on the other hand hasn't shown much personality, as he only appeared here by now, but he is a semi-comical character and is more fearful than Sonic and Mighty, i can't take anything about the way they speak because i don't speak japanese and it's hard to do that, but the personality of both will probably be developed deeper in the future

There is no reason this could not have been programmed for the SEGA Mega CD or Saturn. I heard that SEGA of Japan was gonna let SEGA Technical Institute attempt to port it to 32X, but it never came to fruition. I think it could work with with the 3DS's touch screen, by repeatedly sliding the stylus forward in a certain direction to make them move forward (or just using the circle pad to move, and holding down either L or R to run as an alternative control scheme).

SegaSonic early on was considered to be ported to the new Mars/Genesis 32, but STI and SEGA of America wanted to develop an original game instead called "Sonic Mars" aka Sonic Xtreme. SEGA of Japan showed some interest in porting it to the Saturn in 1994, but because System 32 was abandoned do to some chip supply constraints, they quickly moved on from porting any System 32 game to Saturn.
