I live in a townhouse, with a garage underneath. I used a horse stall mat like this as backstop in the garage. I just hoisted it in place and used carriage bolts to hang it from the studs. We're using 30 lb bows at about 10 yards. Our DIY target is about 4 inches thick with combination of closed cell foam and cardboard. So far, we've never penetrated the mat far enough to hit the drywall over the studs.

Thank you for this video. Been trying to find something to stop arrows when missing the target. Definitely making one of these

finally a video that actually shows the horse mat stopping an arrow. Thank you for the demo!

I made one of these last year after watching your video. It works good! Its caught a few arrows that I missed the 3d deer so far. Shooting a Prime Centergy Hybrid at 65lbs. I couldn't believe how damn heavy that horse stall mat is, it was tough to bolt up to frame with just my wife and I. Definitely hard to pull the arrows out of it compared to how yours came out. Thank you for sharing

Nice, good demonstration of the effectiveness of the matting to stop an arrow.

Great backstop for someone who knows how to shoot. One with more height will stop those accidently high, over the target shots. My backstop is about 8 ft high, hanging a foot above the ground. Thank you to posting this video~

I did something similar. About the same size, though abit taller. I used 4 sheets of fairly heavy shade cloth about 4-5 inches apart just free hanging with an old carpet rug free hanging behind them. Since it all moves freely move when impacted it catches them gently. Like a tennis ball at a sheet on a clothes line. I set it up for my kids, but it catches arrows from a 65lbs compound aswell. Not sure if it would catch broadhead or not, never tried.

Nice video! I'm gonna make something like this in the Spring, so we can shoot in our new backyard...wish I had something like it at the old place...think there might still be an arrow in the woods somewhere... I see your chickens skipped the safety meeting just like ours, LOL.

You should hang your block target to put it in the middle of the backstop so if you shoot low you don’t hit the ground
@kaikart1234 жыл бұрын
the ground is free backstop you don't have to change

AS REAL AS IT GETS , my bow is set at 70 pounds and it stops the arrows with no problem at 20 or 30 yards. I haven’t had an arrow go completely through yet. Good question, thanks.

Same here, It went pretty far in at the 60-65 yard range and I wonder if it will go all the way to the vane at 20 yards.

Very jealous, Not even allowed to use a bow outside of an approved target range here (Hunting is illegal too) even if you were allowed to have a range on your land the legislation on all the requirements is nearly impossible to navigate and understand, but that is okay, because you must pay someone $$$$$ to make it for you (because they have the bit of paper that says they can do it) One example, you need a MINIMUM of 50m behind the target for overshoot that is on your land and fully signed as a restricted area.. as well as similar signage on your perimeter fences PLUS either a red flag and "Shooting in progress" sign or a red light (with a bunch of rules on how many blinks per minute it has to flash at) with a "shooting in progress" sign. You need "baffles" to prevent a shot from going beyond your backstop from the firing line in any position, and if you have multiple firing lines they strongly advise (do everything possible to force) you totally roof the range. Welcome to Australia, the "Lucky" country. Edit: oh yeah, if somehow the arrow makes it off your property the best you can expect is a trespass charge (not for getting the arrow, but because the arrow trespassed) and possibly disturbing the peace, discharging a weapon without due care and anything else you could think of.. maybe property damage charges too.
