One of my favorite things to do in a level is to add a checkpoint room. A little room for a moment of peace between the action. Those rooms are always fun to decorate. (I've even added a few Easter Eggs in some of my CP rooms using decorations).

@@Arrowstotle This might not be the most common mistake, but by far the biggest one IMO. No clear indication of where to go. In kaizo levels it's necessary, but even in normal levels it flows so much better. For aesthetic purposes, semisolids are hard to overuse, so I would always recommend people to use those frequently :)

Very good video. Semisolids and scroll stopping are the big ones I recommend to every new maker. Semisolids are so useful as backgrounds, ground, and ceiling decorations and scroll stopping makes levels feel so much more cohesive like actual Nintendo made levels.

Absolutely! Those two elements can really make or break your visual design. Thanks for commenting and watching!
@pepearown49684 жыл бұрын
Back to ground decoration: You need to keep in mind that there are “natural” and “manmade” themes. The natural themes are ground, underground, underwater, desert, snow, forest, and sky. The manmade themes are castle, airship, and ghost house. If something is natural, then that means that it’s more “random” and less “straight”. This means that ground decorations as well as things such as pebbles in underground tiles, starfish in underwater tiles, or fossils in desert tiles can be placed randomly and look proper. However, with manmade themes, it’s the exact opposite. Things such as statues and railings need to be placed in a meticulous manner so as to give that location a “structured” feeling. Things such as cracks in ghost house tiles can be randomly placed, but you know what must not ever be placed randomly under any circumstance? *AIRSHIP WINDOWS* It really bothers me to see a bunch of sporadically placed windows in courses. If a ship maker were to do that in real life, they’d probably get fired or ridiculed on something like r/crappydesign. Consequently, you need to place your airship windows in a consistent manner. I’d suggest rows of them 1 tile wide gaps in between each window. Be sure to keep these on the same X-axis, unless you want a zigzag or stacked window design.

Find an old hot garbage level from Mario Maker 1, copy the level layout into Mario Maker 2 using the first games level viewer, and take the existing parts from the course and turn it into a functioning, beautiful course! This wouldn’t be an attempt at shaming the creator of the original course, more so showing how significant improvements can be made and how to turn something ugly and unwanted into a wonderful treat for all.

The left portion works fine and doesn't scroll, but for some reason that eludes me, the right section scrolls to the left. Little Timmy Version: (Tips on Making a Little Timmy Level) If you ever get ground decoration, remove the ground that has decoration and replace it. Do NOT use slopes. If you do use slopes, use only one type. Don't put ANY block around a pipe. No block should be touching a pipe. In the SM3DW style, both ends are closed on pipes, so don't use the SM3DW style. Also, avoid having pipes go in the opposite direction when going to subworlds. For example, if the pipe you enter is going up, make the exit pipe not point down. Don't use hard blocks at all unless it's a bob-omb part. Make ground blocks platforms that aren't at the bottom of the map and are 1 block in height as much as possible. Never use semisolids, tracks, vines, lava riders unless extremely necessary. Add coins, but scatter them randomly around the level because indicators are useless. Use as many enemies as possible. If you make a wall, Make sure it doesn't go all the way up or down.

I'm heavy on decoration in my levels. If it's in a retro style, then I'd use a whole lot of vines and background semi-solids to decirate the place. If it's the 3D World style, then trees, enemie, and blocks and question blocks.

I sometimes don't use coins properly to not make it look like a Mario level and you can remake Sonic levels by not using coins properly and treat them like rings from Sonic the Hedgehog games
