This was the first movie to ever truly fuck with my head. Reading the book after didn't help any. Love them both.

i bounced off the book hard but I've seen this movie more times than I can even recall. I used to watch it on VHS tape every now and then but mostly introducing it to friends who hadn't seen it. It was always a kick watching someone new get their mind blown by it. I never really equated it with a drug trip like experience that I hear others saying it is now. How they took something then watched it. I just loved the look of the film and the maddeningly confusing elements that you just knew meant more but at least with me. I couldn't figure a lot of it out. A shame it got buried because it became so controversial. It would probably be rather tame by todays standards.

I went to see this at a movie theater in 1991 with a friend. We had both consumed a decent amount of shrooms. It goes without saying I still cannot look a typewriter in the eye. Luckily they’re largely obsolete now.

Let's not forget the scene where Ian Holm has a telepathic conversation with the main character.

Videodrome will always be my favourite but this is still top tier Cronenberg and a release I’ve been awaiting for what seems like forever. Great FX, a superb performance by Peter Weller and a fascinatingly bizarre adaptation of an admittedly ‘unfilmable’ source novel .. … ‘Now we just need ‘The Fly

This was a real movie? Nelson went and saw this on The Simpsons and thought the movie was wrongly advertised because of the title.

Better than the book it is based on, this film also entails parts from the original novel's author's life - all wrapped up into a new story taking place in a world based on the original "Naked Lunch".
@ClayMann8 ай бұрын
I always thought of it as taking someone elses work that didn't make any sense and just having those be lego pieces that Cronenberg could then run with and just do whatever the hell he wanted. He truly got to make the movie his creative heart desired which is very rare in higher budget movies. I don't think a film exists that looks anywhere near as good that's quite like it. Maybe Poor Things today could be a good example bending reality around a story without much care for it. But I do think of this as Cronenbergs movie. Fans of him are more likely to love it than fans of the book or books author.

@@ClayMann Certainly applies to me. Burroughs was quite interesting, but Cronenberg speaks to me on a more visceral level.
