Does it seem like the boys throw more weaning tantrums than the girls? So far it always seems like the boys win for most tantrums. They are hilarious! You would think the mother was killing them when in reality they aren't! If you watch, they are so gentle with the little tantrum makers, it's almost like mom feels bad for saying no. A really "fake" whack to the face that has no power. I love these macaques and how clever they are. I love this channel!

Reddy will work it out as she has always done with the other kids, she has to judge the needs of each one as they are all different. These families are amazing. Suckling the teat is not always about drinking the milk. They also do this for comfort. Of course, breaking them of that is also part of the weaning process.

I don't think you were quick to judge, Arroz- that was one heckuva tantrum Dinky threw! Reddy is the quintessential "boymom." I feel she gets softer (or more seasoned?) with each boy... she doesn't sweat the small stuff, I guess (although it does drive me nuts how she won't give him a good smack lol). She knows best, but boy- what an epic scream for a denial of the milk bar!

Wow, I saw some smacks before and after Reddy's warning bites, but Dinky does have Dopey's persistence. He was even doing a pretty good imitation of Dopey's milk coma. Reddy's face is even more red than usual.....she must be in estrous. I'm hoping for lots of baby girls in the spring?

Pphhhhttttt, couldn't help yourself and just had to feed them. They come to the road because they know there's a sucker in every bunch and will get fed. They need to be taught that isn't the case and foraging is best. I wish they would crack down on illegal feeding. And what exactly does a starving monkey look like? Surely not them that's for sure.
