Am a Man Utd supporter and went to this game when in London for that time. Was in the Clock End with thousands of Chelsea supporters. Great game and great times then.

Not a supporter of either team but in my 7th decade of attending my team's games(Millwall) and it makes you cry to see what atmospheres we USED to have with fans on top of the pitch and the majority of fans CHOOSING to stand amidst the serried ranks of their fellow fans and then those that know "better" moved in to create, relatively, sterile, silent, sanitized, soulless Stadiums.... Progress,innit ! Innit???????

True. There’s something really bootiful about a packed terrace. The grounds used to all look different and they had such character. Not like the featureless all-seater bowls they have now.
@Shaundarmani19784 ай бұрын
Defo agree there mate. Who wants to sit down at the football? It aint tennis or basketball, its the beautiful game. I loved the terraces being a grange end boy of ninian park, now our new ground the cardiff city stadium lacks the atmosphere, unless its a derby game. Bring back our terraces!!

@@chelsealookback So many but some games just stick with you, like another favourite of mine, Milk Cup [League Cup] replay. Sheffield Wednesday 4-4 Chelsea. We were 3-0 down at half time. Paul Canoville came on as a 2nd half sub and scored almost instantly. We got back to 3-3 and then in extra-time went 3-4 up only for the big Scottish lump that is Doug Rouvie to give away a penalty in the last few seconds of the game. They scored 4-4 ref blew the whistle. We played them a 3rd time and won 2-1. It was bedlam. Police horses on the pitch, fights in the away end. Fights outside. Fights on the way to their coaches. Let's just say that there were a lot of fights. Crazy times 👌🏼

WHAT A CONTRAST.....THEN; Packed crowds, mostly standing right on top of the pitch.Fantastic celebrations and spontaneous, natural celebrations within seconds of ensuring the pitch Officials award the goal. NOW 2023 STYLEE? Crowds are forced to sit (Officially though not always in practice) well away from some pitches like West Ham. They often don't celebrate but wait, sometimes, for VAR to verify the goal which can take 3 or 4 minutes THEN have a "secondary" celebration of a Screen: Big Brother Style, sucking all the fun and joy out of the game and next May,I enter my 8th decade. Just look at the limbs when Chelsea equalised,for example.

The one thing I remember about this is that just about every Chelsea fan near me at the front of the Clock End joined in the almost compulsory round of polite applause for Pat Jennings as he took up his place in the goalmouth. Half-hearted perhaps, but no other goalie got a similar reaction. He nodded and raised a glove in acknowledgement. Best British goalie of the last 50 years?
