A famous night in the history of Wigan Athletic, as they looked to reach their first major cup final. The Latics held a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg of the semi-final, going into the return match at Highbury. And the omens were on their side: they had yet to concede a goal in the 2005-06 League Cup, plus Arsenal had been knocked out of the competition at this stage on their last three occasions. Hated Henry never taking penalties. Ffs, he should have atleast 15+ goals but he always gave the penalty duties away when he won it.

Just before Roberts's goal the Arsenal players were wasting the time and the fans were cheering 'Ole' as they kept the ball and passed it about. I remember thinking how arrogant they were, doing that when they were only a goal away from losing the tie. And when Roberts scored I was absolutely thrilled for them lol.

This was the very first Game I ever went too. Was a disaster of an evening. Was late leaving due to extra time, walked to Holloway tube tube only to be turned away as it was closed due to a bent track. Then walked to finsbury park and had to queue to get in! just caught last train out of Victoria back to Eastbourne but unfortunately it diverted to Brighton. Managed to get night bus home. Got in at 4am lol

It was my first game too! Also trying to navigate a way back to Sussex! I reckon lots of people around that time went to their first game that night. Tickets were hard to come buy during this era, and a midweek cup game against a smaller northern team gave us all a chance!

Arsenal were still good for a couple of seasons after this, though naive. I would say banter era kicked in after losing the champions league semi final in 09. We became a joke

I fell in love with Wigan because of Championship Manager, but this team was incredible by any stretch, certainly one of the best first time premier league squad of all time. 2nd at Christmas, Carling Cup final, FA Cup winners, what a journey it was and this win was one of the best.

Phil Dowd always had some personal vendetta against Wigan. He rigged the game everytime by not giving us anything. We used always fear a game when he was ref, it was like playing against 12 men.

I always thought that an away goal in extra time is an unfair rule. The team playing away first leg have 90 minutes to get away goals and the team playing away in the 2nd leg have 120 mins.
