I thought he did quite well considering the intensity of the game. Mark Atkinson is good ref. You know whenever we play Spurs Kane, Son and Alli one of them is going to dive at some point. Xhaka's stupid pen is fairly obvious and I was surprised he didn't give him a yellow for that. Speaking of refs, it seems like VAR is actually turning Mike Dean into a good ref now. He's not making rush calls anymore because he knows he can always check the replay for confirmation. So I guess if that's the unintended consequences of VAR, then it's worth having. So we got that going for us as fans, which is nice !

By pushing torreira forward you have two midfielders who cant defend, one who is too slow to track back and the other is simply not a good defender. Every time they went forward son had acres of space. I thought ceballos should have started over guendozi (although he had an incredible game so 😅) as ceballos can do both defensive and offensive work while connecting the midfield to attack, we lacked flair in midfield

Emery is very naive when u play diamond against Liverpool and 3 defensive midfield against spurs that is the problem. When Ceballos came on boom u saw mattheo let loose and he was moving forward. Because he knows ceballos was covering him. Xhaka is slow and he is not suited to counter attack and pace. Once we get our defenders back and if we can buy a top quality defender we will be formidable.

Just a reminder, Emery had Xhaka and Torreira in midfield in the same fixture last year too, and we were losing that 1:2 at halftime. The difference was Ramsey coming in for Mkhi in 2H and creating two goals. It’s shows no progression, with Emery repeating the same mistakes in lineup and defensive lapses continuing (Holding gave penalty last year).

How was Leno at fault for the goal? It was a slider and he couldn't grasp it. He parried it for our defenders, who were 20 yards away. It was the defenders fault. Kolasinac was great attacking, he was a direct threat like he always has been, not to good defending but he was the only one who managed to get back just before the first goal; Maitland Niles was the worst of the full backs/defenders. Guendouzi was Motm. He was the only one who stayed behind for the corners and Free Kicks, which saved in a few counter attacks in the first half. Pepe should've came off, I would've tried Martinelli but Reiss Nelson could've further stretched they're defence. Emery gets a 6 tbh, wasn't really that bad a lineup, the players just let us down.

@@thomasachiampong4683 Delusion? Mate, bottom line is that Liverpool haven't won the league title in almost 30 years. Spurs have yet to win any major trophy. Both teams have had stable management which has taken many seasons to get them to this point. And they both still haven't managed to win the league, something Arsenal have done three times in the premier league era. If Klopp doesn't land the title this season he's a failure. Emery will make us title contenders in less than five years and unlike Klopp I think he will win the league because unlike Liverpool we actually have the championship history.

Taking 5 yards off a speedy winnger is the way to defend, its being smart not petrified. Especially the fact that he is going to tackle himself anyway. Reminds of Walcott, all the pace with no finish or cross abilities.

Leno - 5 poor on the first goal AMN - 6 I think he did pretty well in his first derby Sokratis - 5 first goal not good enough and he feels like a risk with VAR Luiz - 6 I think he was actually quite good but the whole defence was shaky Sokratis - 4 he reminds me of my best mate. Charge down the wing and whack in a cross anywhere and poor defensive work rate. Xhaka - 1 because he didn’t get sent off by some miracle. Guendouzi - 8 best player on the pitch Torreira - 6 he was steady and worked hard Pepe - 6 his quality is clear but he is forcing things a bit Lacazette - 7 what a goal and did well against two decent centre halves Aubameyang - 7 he looks like he is going to a higher level always think he will score. Ceballos - 7 him and Guendouzi were the main reason we controlled the game in the second half Mkhitaryan - 4 I’d accept Reiss Nelson making the mistakes he did when he came on but not a player on his wages

We should put chambers in defensive mid. He was player of the year there for Fulham. Then when Holding returns you can always rotate Luiz there too. He plays much better in that role and would bring that physical presence with him.

Our front 3 needs to play like Liverpools front 3. Lacazette as our main man in the middle acting as a false 9 letting the other 2 make runs (Auba behind like Mane and Pepe directly into us like Salah) I'd also consider playing a back 3 with wing backs who can overlap for width when going forward and allow Aubameyang mainly to get in narrower where he prefers to play. Excited for Tierney and Bellerin to see what they can do. Leno Tierney Holding Luiz Sokratis Bellerin (could play Luiz infront as a CDM providing cover even) Either Torreira/Guendouzi as a defensively minded player partnering Cabellos/Willock as the attacking mid (We need a proper workhorse midfield duo is required sub them off after 60 mins most games if you have to but we need two solid box to box mids) Front 3 with Laca playing a false 9 dropping into midfield on occasions and Auba allowed to tuck in as Tierney makes good overlaps. Lethal side plays to most players strengths and provides defensive solidity. Needs the personel (the midfield pair) to do the job. We have 4/5 capable midfielders who are always fighting for their place in the side so we should find the best pair for each occasion)

💯 I agree with DT, u can’t be a captain of one of top 6 teams and be slacking. He never should’ve got the armband and I still feel he’s a great player but when a top 6 side small mistakes can lead to bigger issues

You can't blame Leno for the first goal, he was stretched to make the save. Sokratis is going for the ball he will never win which got him out of position and Son leaving Luiz behind him so easily which got him out of position too. Leno was one of our best players, kept us in the game.

Leno 7, Maitland Niles 6, Sokratis 4 and that's being generous, David Luiz 6, Kolasinac 6, Xhaka 5, Guendouzi 8, Torreira 6, Aubameyang 8, Pepe 7, Lacazzette 9, Ceballos 7, Mikhitarian 5... that's based on watching the game twice and really breaking down positioning and tactical awareness!

The Leno "Error" is hardly a mistake, he was completely outstreched, Im sure he will learn from it but hardly a howler like these guys are making out. Too be fair I thought it was a howler at normal speed but slowed down you can see that he actually did very well getting to that ball.
