This game and the ‘89 Anfield match are the two games I remember so well from my childhood! As I was born in the 80’s this was the first time I saw them win a trophy 🏆. My love for the Gooners has never wained. COYG

Great memories of this. The Liverpool fans were magnificent. So loud and passionate even in defeat, and they applauded the Arsenal players graciously at end. So much of Arsenal's subsequent acheivements were started from this team. The mentality of the famous defence and Arsenal spirit that was the basis of the Wenger years was built by George.

March Irving yep! I guess I have been lucky to be born and grow up witnessing all the great Arsenal teams in the last few decades. George Graham, Wenger (we won’t talk about Emery) and I really feel Arteta gets it; it’s really down to investment, I believe...

As a Newcastle fan I'd happily lose a League Cup Final and then an FA Cup Final a year later if it meant we won the league, then the FA Cup and then the League again. Oh to support Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or a Manchester club!

Even before the European ban which was in force during this period, the league cup, along with the FA Cup was treated with full respect by all the top teams, domestic finals were the be all and end all. It's a shame the Champions league and Prem has taken away the glamour of those occasions, there were some great final in the 80s, this being one of them..two big clubs at full strength (injuries aside) giving their everything to win some domestic silverware in front of passionate fans...great days

I remember watching this. I was a young Liverpool supporter and couldn't believe they lost. I have been watching a lot of these classics and the linos officiating was beyond bad. You think it's bad now? It was catastrophic back then. This game had a few shockers. I'll give a couple of examples 1:47:10 - you can see Perry Groves is at least a couple of yards on side. 1:52:38 - Spackman, well onside. I've gone through a number of games and they are littered with terrible lino offside calls. But they were almost never brought up on it. They literally didn't know the rules or know what they were doing.
