They also pretended to be robbed when his team favoured from a Thierry Henry offside brace at Highbury vs ManUtd....In this CL final Arsenal took the lead from an Eboue dive and it was Barca who actually scored first in this final but they gave Arsenal a red card for last man foul instead of allowing Barca's goal and keep 11 vs 11....then Arsenal controversially took the lead. I think Barca would've coped fine 1-0 up and 11 vs 11. Arsenal were complaining about the decision because they lost in the end but if Arsenal won you'd have to look at those decisions at 0-0 and say they were helped a lot but this was typical Wenger.

First Champions league final I remember watching, even as a United fan it’s crying shame Arsenal lost this game. This would have closed the chapter on Wenger’s first 10 years at Arsenal perfectly, they had just played their last game at Highbury ready to move to the emirates, a bright new future seemed to be on the horizon for them all capped off with their first Champions League triumph. Alas it was not meant to be and things just seem to have gone downhill steadily ever since this game.

Not really. Arsene Wenger went ahead of the ffp, build the Emirates and it comes at a cost. In hindsight, he probably wouldn't leave Highbury, keep the team until 2009 to get another League Title or two, maybe a C1 title... I still don't get why Henry left for so cheap to Barcelona. What an absolute legend this man is. With the new stadium Arsene had extremely limited resources but somehow found a way to get a very young Arsenal squad to the CL final, without losing a single game and had to rely on inexperienced players (at the time) like Cesc, Senderos, Flamini, etc. to get them there. The sending off was questionable (not going to say it was a travesty, as I can kind of understand the decision, although I personally felt it was harsh) but the offside goals were so hard to take. The character and fight in that seasons team deserved more and Arsene was right, even though the team had a peak Ronaldinho, the Brazilian didn't turn up and didn't make an impact on that game. This is the game that pretty much destroyed Arsene, and the interview is difficult to watch. It went downhill from there and it's easy to understand why. Arsene knew that this was THE CHANCE for greatness and it was robbed from him. He was never the same after that game.

Had Arsenal won this game, it would’ve been one of , if not, the most dominant display from an English team winning the CL. No goals conceded until the final, let alone losses, it is still a record till this day..the 2 goals we conceded all tournament was in the final, one of the goals is clearly offside and the ref also admitted after the game that he was wrong for sending Lehman off but he made the decision in haste. We still had a good game in the final with 10 men and decisions going against us, If ever a team deserved a CL win it was this team.

Arsenal did not “deserve” anything. The goal they scored came from a foul that wasn’t a foul, eboue dived... the goal should’ve counted instead the referee took it back and chose to give the red and it backfired in their face beautifully. They paid him off for nothing

Bergkamp missed alot of European games through fear of flying. He was a majorly important player for Arsenal, despite the team being full of talented players, so always decreased the chances in Europe greatly when he didn't play. Arsenal also just didn't genuinely have enough European experience back then to be anywhere near winning the competitions. This year they went on an incredible run, which can happen in tournaments, but it wasn't even Arsenal's best team, alot of it was on the way out.
