Hello Everyone! Let's talk about getting back to the joy of creating art after a rough time in life. I've made a list of three things I'm going to try out the rest of the year to try to bring enjoyment and excitement back to my art marking.

thank you so much for this, I've been having a rough time this year as well and I haven't made art in a while and it's good to have external reminders that these phases don't last forever and that it's possible to get back into the swing of things. I hope you're able to take it easy and recover from whatever has happened this year. Thank you for continuing to share your art in the meantime. I know it has been a bright spot for my dreary days and I'm sure it has been for many others as well.

Every now and again I go through a phase of wanting to watch art videos on here all the time, and yours is always the first name I type in! These are my favourite art vids on here because of your art style and chill narration

oh yes, couple!!! I want more. For me it's absolutely the opposite with having a break from drawings. My Drawings are much better after a long time with no pencils, Colours and everything that had to do with my drawing skills. For me these times are import to learn by watching Art tutorial and take inspiration with it. And when I'm going to turn back to my drawings and start a new Art my skills has grown very much. It's so interesting how different we are and in the way we live Art 😊

I had a major life event back in 2021 and it's just been 1 blow after another, in 2022, 2023, and earlier this year. All these traumatic events have taken a toll on my creativity. Massive amounts of stress and depression have made it now where i struggle to want to draw. I struggle to stay in the creative mindset and when it doesn't seem to be going well I just delete it all and close the program. I think to combat this I will start sketching in my sketchbook again. So I can't just delete it and throw it away, I still have something to show some tiny amount of progress, even if I hate it at the moment.

I connected with this so hard 😢 once upon a time i was excited to draw and make things and just DO. I haven’t had the energy, the inspiration, the desire, or even the want to make anything lately. Thank you for the reminder that this is temporary and I can get myself out of this. Hope you feel better soon 💛 im gonna go doodle a bit to remind myself that I can.

I've been in a slump for like, a decade, hah! It's reassuring to hear when other artists feel that way. You mentioned figure drawing- are there any particular resources you can recommend? That's one of the few ways I can still get myself to draw, is by pulling up a reference and not have to think too hard about what I want to draw. It's nice to see your work again, and I hope your voice recovers soon!

Agree it comes and goes, I just paint for myself, but sometimes there are not enough hours in the day, and other times it can feel a uphill battle. But i guess its knowing its always there in the background that is important

Honestly I think I must be the only artist in the world who actually has been feeling and doing good lately.

I'd say the value in creating art is in what it gives you during the creation of that art. For me, that's a stillness of mind and a physical and emotional connection to whatever it is I'm creating. Once it becomes anything other than that, like questioning the value it may have for others or in the world, I think the piece loses all fun and value for me. It's those times that I find myself increasingly and unknowingly withdrawing from creating until I realize what's happening and reign in those feelings. Similar to platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and even KZbin, I think it's important to keep in mind that we're often looking only at a curated collection of paintings of those past artists, the "best" of what those artists have created. We rarely see their "bad" work, work that may have brought immense value to the artist but not the viewer. For this reason, it's important to not compare what we're creating with what they've created, because, for many reasons, they're very different things. All that said, thank you for making the time and for exerting the effort to share your art and yourself with us. That alone provides value to others, and maybe also to you. 🙂

Hm. As long as you recall women are very heavily underrepresented or stolen from when looking at art from the past. The view is very one-sided.

No, this "view" is not "one sided". It is a historical fact.
