ART AND VANDALISM: Activists attack Van Gogh
History is full of attacks on works of art.
A few days ago, we saw on the news some environmental activists from Just Stop Oil stormed the National Gallery in London and threw tomato soup on Vincent van Gogh's "15 Sunflowers".
The environmental protests were focusing on the polluting energy measures proposed by the British government. Press and social networks have been left speechless and have strongly criticized this action.
Vandalism against art is usually quite shocking. And that's because works of art and artists are often on a pedestal. Leonardo da Vinci and his Gioconda, Pablo Picasso and Guernica, Vincent Van Gogh and his sunflowers; all of them have our admiration. We elevate them to cultural icons of our society.
