It always amazes me that the same people who rag on prints probably grew up with some kind of poster on their walls as a kid. If you like a print, you instantly win. Why? because you can collect that print for a much lower price than a painting. Both a print and a painting will sit on the wall and guess what.... the wall doesnt know the difference. They both beautify your home the same way, and the only difference, is the immaterial, yet forever hungry, ego of the owner. Personally, I own both paintings and prints. I purchased a Kinkade print, because a real Kinkade painting doesn't belong in a private home, hidden away from the world. It belongs in a museum, for everyone to enjoy.

A lot of the art sold on cruise ships at auction or either prints, fakes or not very representative of the artist. Kind of like the yard sale or garage sale in the auction in the street. It’s sort of reminds me of the remainders in the book world that there are books like it over printed or there’s too many of them that don’t sell so they mark them down by 75% off. So the auctioneer brings a bunch of mediocre paintings onto a cruise ship, and people who are gamblers or just have expendable income can’t afford to buy $1 million painting but they certainly get to have the fun and the excitement of bidding on a piece of art that’s a few thousand dollars. Seriously though, any good piece of art it’s not gonna be worth buying if it is sat on a damp cruise ship for several months going around and around the cruise ship route until the item sells

peter max original paintings gor for quite a bit and now that he is not painting du to age and dementia his art will increase in value like Andy Warhol.

I agree. I've see that lately. I loved the pieces I saw there. However, I would rather use that cash to go on more cruises. Some people can buy this artwork and still go on cruises. Most people can't to both.

@@bestatsea1415 you're right. the first auctioneer we ever encountered on a cruise said to only by art that you love and want to hang on our walls. at the time we bought a new house and had no art so we bought some. we have bought much more in the years since, to the extent Park West has taken us on a cruise and are taking us on another cruise (11 days) next year. they pay for everything, including taxes, port fees and gratuities, give you a couple of meals at specialty dining, and have open bars during all their events. and we got some great art. We definitely look for deals for art we like and have some original works from new artists that have since increased in value since the artists have become more well known.

@@cliffs1956 That's great! Getting the art you want and some free cruises makes a lot of sense. I did not know that one could be "comped" like that with artwork purchases. That changes the game altogether. Thanks for letting me know.

Well, some us that do appreciate art do not have enough money to buy art and also go on cruises. So it would be crazy for me to spend my cruising fund on beautiful.
