Half point for HVAC. A key part of the category is realizing they make up the acronym, not just that they are similar apparatus. Plus, VENTILATION is not temperature control and CONDITIONING is not something on its own.

Congrats on your 2! You did great today, even in Stands. For a little while, I was worried that you were getting hung up on a hiking theme, because you had hiking on the brain. But eventually you caught on to the types of trees theme (or was it types of wood?)

Wordle in 4 COUCH STARE SLATE SKATE Connections: No mistakes and got the time bonus, Didn't get the order, and only got a half point on Blue. I said "Utilities you pay for in a house'". Not anything about HVAC. Heard of the acronym, didn't know what it means. 8.5/10 Strands: Hard one today! Spangram was easy. The rest? Not so much. Luckily I've heard of all these. 10/10

Folding is a baking technique that GENTLY mixes ingredients together without too much agitation. Usually done when mixing beaten egg whites into a cake batter, so as not to deflate them too much.

Got the purple first in Connections. As soon as I saw poker and origami I knew it was folding. I got Wordle in 2 also, but I start with SLATE so it’s not nearly as impressive. Folding in baking is a specific way of mixing ingredients in so that they stay even and consistent.

World, went with IMBUE instead of ISSUE for 5 uniquest IMBUE STORY (skipped LANCH because I saw it was gonna be between SLATE, SKATE and SPATE so went with a disambiguation word) POLKA SKATE ----- Strands #175, “Into the woods”, 10 Four super hard mode solves in a row and this one was a speed solve at 0:58. "Types of duct" I'll take that thank you. That acronym is virtually unknown in the UK (I would say totally but there seems to be some UK web pages saying "what is HVAC"!). It's not a good acronym in English anyway, they should be catchy and intuitively pronounceable, that one looks like a Croatian word. Purple just jumped out at me, I'm not sure how. Yellow doesn't work so well for us, "steaming" more often means drunk and "boiling" doesnt mean angry at all. "Seething" would fit better. But at least I solved it today.... Edit: If it is pronounced as Art said it, as individual letters H, V, A,C, it isn't an acronym at all so that category is invalid.

Wordle JOINT LASER (skipped DUCHY as I had identified STEA- and STA-E traps, went for a disambiguation word to test some possibliities with GAMED. Then almost lost because I forgot GAMED ruled out the M so I guessed STEAM turn 4. That left me with STAVE, STAKE and STATE as possibilities so I went with another test word on turn 5 SKATE (testing for the K and putting the T in the 4th position to test fot STATE). STAKE in 6. Turn 4 guess should have been STEAK, which would have gotten me the answer in 5. =============== Strands #176, “See you on the court”. 10 Saw a few theme words but the spangram was tricky. Felt so proud when I found it first and then immeidately I screwed up super hard mode trying to lock in SEVRE. Total solve time 2:41. -========== Connections #442, 8 4+3 base, time bonus Toruses (0.5) - Deducting a half point here because the proper pluralization is tori. OK (1) Golf mistakes (!) First Part of Footwear (0.5). Have not heard of WADERS so I left it more vague in case it was something else but I recognized SNAKERS, LOAFERS and SLIPPERS. Pretty bad performance overall today.

HVAC? Oh I see, we don't have that in the UK (with A/C, usually not the actual thing. Everyone hates ventilator fans, you only have one if building regulations require it). I guessed origami had to do with either paper or folding, but didn't get any further. I think not being familiar with HVAC would make it much more difficult to put AIR and CONDITIONING in the same category. It would look like bait. I spent $8K on an HVAC system a few months ago. Who knew that would come in handy? (Although all in all, I'd rather have the $8K.)

🟨🟨🟨🟫🟨TESLA 🟩🟨🟩🟫🟩STARE 🟩🟫🟩🟩🟩SPATE 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩SKATE -I had a 50% shot at a birdie, at least. I chose poorly. I fundamentally disagree with the whole “point” thing for having to “properly” identify the category in each Connections row, but if you insist on playing that game then no, you definitely DON’T get the point for missing the HVAC acronym. Many other words could have been used for a simple “temperature control” category (including Boiling, Steaming and Baking if you interpret it to include temperature settings) but ONLY those four words could have possibly fit in the “Words in the acronym HVAC” caragory. What an HVAC does is almost irrelevant, the whole point of the category is the makeup of the acronym.
