Thank you! I'm trying to keep the medium of printmaking and etching alive today as it's a dying ancient medium. I think it's so important to teach and expose as many people as I can as a historical tradition to keep it alive in the 21st century. I hope Rembrandt and Durer are proud of me 600 years later lol that's who inspired me to first delve into printmaking! I'm so happy I could help show you and teach you about the etching process visually. I'm glad I was able to show the difference between those two processes. I am strictly an etching artist. Wood plate is the complete opposite where you have to cut out all the negative space, vs here you etch the positive space. Durer is my favorite wood engraver of all time but I never quite got the full hang of it. It's so hard to create the fine lines in wood that I love in etching. It's very hard on your hands to carve and cut vs draw through hard ground. Etching feels more like drawing that's why I prefer etching but I have major respect for any wood cut engravers out there!

I'm experimenting with different tools for drawing through the ground. I find a scribe creates too fine a line. What else do you use besides an exacto knife, if you don't mind sharing?

Thank you so much! yes I use soft white pastel. I find it has the best visual contrast to help against on the dark hard ground. I do scrub with water and a bit of soap after the initial transfer so it just leaves the fine ghost lines and gets rid of the white debris. Then I begin the etching process.

yes! I use the Edinburgh Etch method. It is ferric chloride acid with citric powder and water mixture. 4 parts ferric chloride solution + 1 part citric acid solution = Edinburgh Etch. 4 liters ferric chloride solution + 1 liter hot water mixed with 300grs citric acid powder. make up the citric acid solution using the ratio of 3 parts water to 1 part powder.
