Each week, Art Bytes takes an expert deep-dive into the Detroit Institute of Arts' collection. In this episode, we play a game with DIA Gallery Teacher Merlin Chappuis and six very, very old helmets worn more than 2000 years ago by soldiers in Greece and Italy. Did you know that not all helmets were meant for warfare? Some were only worn in big parades to indicate the wearer's importance and status. Others were meant to keep soldiers save from knives, swords, and spears during battles. Which is which? Play Parade, Battle, or Both to learn more about the materials, techniques, and symbolism of these ancient creations.
