Your haul videos are like Christmas for most of us. We enjoy them, right along with you! I adore your personality, swearing and all..very refreshing and real. Thank you!

I hate the very fake art bloggers who're all sweetness and light - no real people are like that - those of us who're a bit more real seem to connect with people more easily. I read a study recently that showed that people who swear more are actually more genuine and honest people and less prone to lying to people about things etc. Oh and btw, just uploaded another haul ;)

The more videos you put out there, the more subscribers you'll get. I very much enjoyed this and subscribed! Very helpful :)

Hey! Don’t laugh out loud, but, I am painting by number. Which I say what’s the difference from painting from a stamp and watching you guys and me painting with the same colors you use? I’m loving it sooo much. I feel it’s so good looking after I’m done. Hugs

You can't go wrong with more tubes of W&N Pro watercolor. Never ever. Awesome haul and the book is beautiful! I don't know if you had a bit of time to work on the painting, but I love the idea! And the colors chosen. (As a side note and color nerdery, Daniel Smith suggests a staining primary trio of Indian Yellow (PY97, PY 150), Anthraquinoid Red (PR 177) and Indanthrone Blue (PB 60). It is a super intense and fun limited palette and it makes for some very vibrant colors and mixes!)

Yes that is a warm red, neutral blue, warm yellow mix which makes bright oranges but miserable purples and greens if I remember. I use all sorts of combinations - Jane Blundell has a large database of trios on her main website.

I like the purples and greens that come out of that trio, but they are indeed limited. Impossible to get a shade like Viridian, or a bright purple. I really need to check out Jane Blundell's site more thoroughly, her names comes up very often from all sorts of sources.

I love Derwent Watercolour pencils! Have had them and the Inktense for quite some time. I had 3 other sets of regular colored pencils so haven't bothered with the Coloursoft but I'm excited to see your thoughts (colored pencil is my other favorite medium besides watercolor, graphite would take third place for when I'm in the mood to do a monochrome). I wanna thank you again for talking with me and your friendship, good sir.

I'll be reviewing them next week - I have some Inktense blocks but not really done much with them yet. I've got a Yellows II video tomorrow for you and think I may have a couple of good lemon alternatives for you!

The Spin Doctor Fantastic! I also love Pyrrole Orange over Cad so I'm interested to see your thoughts on it when you use it; it looks like a very specific color but when diluted it almost has a blush pink hue and can be used in skin tones for portraits which I plan on trying soon.

+Joe Maysky I've liked Lindsay's use of it a few months back in her lobster shack videos, I've just never had it before as I don't tend to buy many secondary colours tbh - I have Cad Orange as you physically cannot mix that from any Cad Yellow/Red as grain sizes are different. I use it with Cobalt Blue to get a nice shadow colour, that is about it - never used it neat. I want to try doing some paintings on Millford paper with dye-only paints to see how they come out - my Millford review video shows at the end how different Perylene Maroon looks on Millford vs Saunders Waterford (both 100% cotton but former has a hard-size) - plus even highly staining colours lifted from it after 24h - it was honestly magical trying it out!

I was just wondering whT THE DIFFERENCE WAS BETWEEN PY43 ns py42 AS i HAVE "YELLOW OCHRES" made from both, one is natural and one is synthetic, good to know:)
@TheSpinDoctor
@TheSpinDoctor 8 жыл бұрын
The bottom line is that natural has impurities that add a certain shade to it and have a certain crystal shape. Synthetic can be doped (fed deliberate contaminants) and have a few different crystal shapes depending how much water of hydration is in the crystal. The gold ochres and the very orange yellows tend to be synthetic. Natural is a finite resource but synthetic can be made from old railroad scraps and so on - not sure which is cheaper in 2016 tbh.

About a year ago we spotted a sale on WnN old packaging professional watercolour...everything a pound no matter what series...well, we went to town on that sale....it would've been rude not to lol. In the end they charged us 50p for half of them ...that was a gift that day. And like you say it was a chance to try colours I probably wouldn't have taken a risk on at full price.

Thanks for that, I'll check out her channel. Love your videos btw....some really useful information as someone else said that often isn't mentioned. I'm very hit and miss if I get a successful outcome...I've realized I'm too impatient and I'm learning to slow down and walk away. I have this feeling that if I can really master these techniques watercolouring won't feeling a mystery to me.

+suzisandpiper Making sure the paper is really dry before continuing is important and I would say never heat dry and slow drying gives lovely effects sometimes. Use a mirror to view your work backwards / that can often show you where you have issues still. Practicing mixing all your potential colours first so you can see how they look is key - you might have a Orange and a Blue and want to make a Neutral but some (Burnt Sienna-Ultramarine) will give you a slightly granulating near-Black and others (Burnt Umber-Cad Orange) give a major granulating dark brown - if you swatch out first you can tell. Moving to a good paper like Waterford will help too - Arches is weird as some colours dull on it - Waterford is much more beautiful.

Thank you for the tip on the paper...I've been using a bockingford to practice as I can't bear to mess up expensive paper...but the paper is a bit limiting ...I'm glad to hear of an alternative to arches as its so expensive in the UK....I have wondered about the Waterford paper...and I believe I have a book of it I bought many years ago from Cornelissen when I was feeling flush! It has remained unopened as I didn't feel worthy....I shall keep practising thank you.

+suzisandpiper Never keep supplies “for best” - it’s hard but just go for it. It’s only paper and they will make more of it ;) Waterford full Imperial sheets are very economical and Jackson’s for example will cut them into 4 for you for free and you can cut those in half and make 1/8th Imperial or smaller for using. Langton Prestige by Daler and Rowney (not Langton - different!) is v economical and not as good as Waterford but it is a nice 100% cotton at a low price. .

Have you done a video on what/how to use the elephant ear sponge yet? I ask because whilst cleaning/organizing the other day I came across a gold mine of art supplies I bought ~ 25 years ago! I found an elephant ear sponge in the mix and don't know how to use it or even what it is for.

Do you can actually do a wash with just the sponge? i.e., one uses it in place of a brush?

Bev Roberts Yes - it has a flat side which you can use just like a brush basically.

+Andy & amandas art dogs & V logs Most supplies I buy either online or from independent art shops (often visiting other towns just to see their art shops - or buying from said art shops using the web). I try to avoid Hobbycraft as overpriced but when they have a sale on, they are useful.
