Happy One Year Anniversary, my sweet friend!!! You so deserve to treat yourself! Thanks for the shout outs! Ok, first...that INK!!! So gorgeous!!! Also, congrats on your new pen! I wish I would have waited for that Iris, I have of the Vac700. That was weird having the water drops inside?!? Btw, the Caran d'ache stickers that came with your box are for the front of your red tin. There are stickers to indicate if it is the Neocolor I or Neocolor II. ;D The Roman Szmal box was gorgeous, and made me want that set for the box, lol! I love Caput Mortuum mixed with Cobalt Teal, please try it! YES, I'm definitely a collector...which I'm fine with as long as I use them too!!! Congrats on all of your amazing goodies!!! I hope you love them! So very true about how much time goes into KZbin, it's a labor of love!

Thank you for the sticker secret!! I haven't even thought of mixing those colors, now I want to run upstairs and try it!! I'm so glad you liked the box, too, it really is special and beautiful! I really only just came to terms with the fact that I'm a collector, and I feel a ton of relief not having to feel guilty that I have more watercolor than I could use in twenty years! You're a huge inspiration to me and watching your videos is what made me feel like I can love supplies as a separate love from creating. Thank you so much for your videos my friend!! 🤗❤️👍

@@CreatingCuteArt You are so welcome! ;D I hope you like the mix, it's very interesting. The box is very pretty! I would have to laminate it, and use it to store my paints. Lol I'm surprised that set didn't come in a metal tin though, like you were. It's totally ok to collect, and I find collecting helps you find what you love most. Sadly it can be hard for me to play much if I worry I will use it all up. I find I don't feel guilty for my collection as I love them, and use them. I sell, gift or donate the ones I don't. With the way prices are going up, we are investing in our future happiness!! ;D Thank you!!! I'm so happy to hear my videos helped you!!! That truly is why I keep sharing! Thank you so much for sharing, as well! You are a huge inspiration to me as well! They joy your videos bring me is insane!

It is so interesting to me that so many watercolorists gravitate towards fountain pens and their inks. BTW, the water is because they tested the pen to make sure it works. I have that same pen by the way. I also have the other one that came before this one. The inks are as fascinating as the watercolors themselves. Well, enjoy.

I have 3 little half pans from Schmincke from the super granulating range and a few from various brands that granulate too. Which is also why I've been drooling over the Roman Szmal watercolours because they also have some gorgeous granulating shades. I think I'll get a few pans as a gift to myself for Christmas. A really fun video, Maggie. A belated Congratualtions-Anniversary greeting. I knew it was sometime now, but wasn't sure of the date. It's envy time for me again, with that superb copper ink!!! Also, that Aquarius set is a palette made for me!!! However, the necessary 'only replacing' no buy continues - the current economic situation in the UK (where my pension is from) has really messed up the exchange rate! I've spent today doing an inventory of my paper supplies and that confirms that I have enough for quite a while, even if I take on another couple of students, and it's the same with paint, coloured / watercolour pencils and pastels, and I think that the fine-liners will last a while yet, so it's not as bad as it sounds. Knowing how much you enjoy play and experiments, I thought that this video from Liz Chaderton might give you an idea or two? kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqmZfWB5oKqNmq8 BTW, I have finished the small 160 page blue sketchbook challenge - a couple of days ago! I'm now debating what will be next for a daily challenge. I think it might be trying to fill the Hahnemühle 250gsm watercolour sketchbook. It's A5 portrait, and so far, it isn't working for me, so it really will be a challenge!
@CreatingCuteArt
@CreatingCuteArt Жыл бұрын
That's interesting, what do you dislike about that new sketchbook? I actually do love a sketchbook challenge to finish off a sketchbook I don't enjoy (like the ten hour challenge, that's a great one to move through a sketchbook!)! I'm sorry you won't be getting the RS palette, but I bet you have a lot of dupes--it might be fun to see how many colors in this palette that you already have some version of!! I'm a big fan of taking inventory to realize my abundance of supplies and quell the buy-it-beast!! I've never heard of Liz, I will definitely check that out!!
@MrsBarnabas
@MrsBarnabas Жыл бұрын
Oops! Warning!!! This has grown really long!!! I love granulating colours, and was interested to see Liz's video pop up and what she did with them. I kept seeing the Schmicke sets in those she made, and especially the first set, which Sarah Burns used for her hobbit house painting! I have colours that I can experiment with, but haven't got around to it yet, but now the sketchbook challenge is done, it might be a good time! The set of 12 colours (four are granulating) I use normally, I love, as I can do so much with them, whether it's plein air landscape or still life, and I have all sorts of oddments that were samples or left overs from workshops and love to play with those, especially for 'splosh paint and see what you see in the blobs' sort of thing. The RS is tempting, but I suspect that if I look closely, I already can / do make them all. Just seeing all of them in a palette was ... yeah, nice! I bought the sketchbooks (one A5 portrait, which I use mostly as landscape, one 14 x 14) with happy expectations, having used 'The Collection' w/c paper, but this is totally different, somehow. The swatches I did on the first page (2.5 x 2cm rectangles of flat paint): with three exceptions out of the twelve, dried patchy. The first painting i did was a huge disappointment. It was a simple doodle of a mountain scene based on Psalm 121, verses 1 & 2. Again, not all, but most of the paint has dried patchy, and the other three also look as though the paper's been overworked, in spite of having given up on them after the first layers. (The blurb specifically says, "...especially for wet in wet techniques".) It actually looks and feels like cheap watercolour paper, one step up from the ghastly stuff from a cheap 'dollar store', but with a little better sizing. Looking at it now, in the dull light of a November day, it looks like cellulose, not cotton. I've read and watched quite a lot of reviews, and several have said that they've found the paper 'inconsistent' from book to book, and even page to page. This would explain why some sing its praises and others don't, I guess. Maggie, I'm not someone who looks for problems, and am rarely negative. I bought these two expectantly and excitedly from a reputable store shortly after they were released, having watched the launch video and liked 'The Collection'' (again very different from other CP paper I have used), and I have learned a lesson! To wait a while and see what others think!!! Anyway, I'm going to do a 'splosh' next - masking off randomly, and then sploshing paint on wet-in-wet to see how it moves and interacts, and probably also (like you!) some random blobs to see what images I can see in them. I love doing both of these, and even my A5 and small Art Creation sketchbook cellulose 140gsm paper copes with the wet-in-wet, so we shall see.
@MrsBarnabas
@MrsBarnabas Жыл бұрын
@@CreatingCuteArt PS to that long reply: I've just realised that the sketchbook paper looks like Cotman CP cellulose paper, which is a great paper - the best cellulose ever, but pricey! - but while Cotman is a great paper and takes quite a beating (I used it for a couple of years when I first started, before switching to single sheets of 100% cotton - actually, because a single sheet of cotton paper was, and still is cheaper!!!) this one most certainly doesn't behave like Cotman!

@@MrsBarnabas oooooh I've never tried that splash technique --you put random splotches of masking fluid and then splash wet paint on while the masking is still wet? Did I understand that right? I've never I'm a million thought of trying that but it sounds like a hoot!! I hear you on the waiting for others to react, but sometimes it's so hard! I am sorry, that sounds like a big let down on the cellulose-like finish on that paper. I hope playing in it makes it a bit salvageable but I hear you on that big time!!
@MrsBarnabas
@MrsBarnabas Жыл бұрын
Maggie, you do the splash with masking tape or masking fluid, depending on the random shapes that you would like to create. Then, with the paper edges well taped to a board, add your masking fluid / tape. Make sure it's well stuck / the masking fluid is completely dry before you begin. Choose some colours (single colours are best, as they mix on the paper, which is part of the fun). Put them ready in your palette so they're ready to go, because you have to work *fast* or the paper won't be evenly wet. Wishy-washy paint doesn't really work. It needs to be fairly strong. If the paper isn't firmly taped all round, it will cockle badly and the paint will just puddle. Masking tape, you can cut it to the width you want with a craft (Exacto?) knife - the smaller the paper, the thinner the tape (or use masking fluid with a ruling pen and ruler - see below for my mistake with this today). Wet the paper, as for wet-in-wet, then just splosh the paint randomly with your brush and allow them to move across the masking and mix with each other. You can move the paper around to encourage the flow, or blow across it, but *don't* use a heating tool / hair drier, because that will mess it up. It has to dry naturally, too, or the paint will move more, and it also dries paler, and sometimes patchier, if you do You can also do this without masking fluid or tape. I've been doing this for years and it's great fun! Becky made a video where she used this when she couldn't use her dominant hand: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIHOn5-LraiKotU It'd be fun to see what you came up with - - and could provide even more fun with home-made super-granulating colours (must try that!!!) I did one with thin, ruled masking fluid in that A5 sketchbook today, and it behaved ... err, ... pretty well, though the paper dried incredibly fast, even though it was a chilly, overcast day with rain, and I didn't have the heating on!!! Also, some (oddly not all!) of the colours faded significantly, and some dried patchily. None of that happens on my usual papers. I over-egged the masking fluid, so a lesson learned there! If you use it, it's better with a silicone tip 'brush, so that the lines are thicker and more spaced. BTW, the blobs you did with paint, and made pictures from them work just as well with ink. It's great fun to look at the mixing swatches we've made to check colours and see what shapes we've made, too. A lot of mine turn out to be faces!!! It's this video where you did you sploshing techniques: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eInOaa2gh7GmrbM Oops - I need to prep for tomorrow (an early start!) and get to bed!

It’s stunning!! I want to do a challenge to get warmed up with them (like a portrait, an animal, and a landscape or flower!)

I would love if you would give a full review about the TWSBI Iris -.. when you said you have been wanting a particular pen for a long time, I wondered if it was the Iris and sure enough, it was..!! I couldn't believe how beautiful it is when I first saw it on some other channels... Would love even more from you about it.. why you chose the piston instead of the vac, etc. and if you like the stub?... I'm so tempted too... the more you can talk about it.. the better... more please.; )

I so get you!! I love the stub and have it on other cheaper Twsbis and it is very consistent with those (just prettier). It didn't like the ink I bought for it, but I mixed the sparkle with a high flow Private Reserve ink and it's flowing beautifully. It has a wonderful weight to it, it's one of the most pleasurable writing experienced I've had. I am used to the piston and never tried a vac so I was scared to go for it with a more expensive pen as my first try! I will probably do a more full review after I've had it a while, but I have been reaching for it all day so far, it's just such a pleasure to use!!

Don't use a wet brush on the crayon as over time it will cause the crayon to crumble. Better to scribble a patch on paper and use your brush on that.
