Any talk that addresses some aspect of history helps to point out the importance of knowledge of the past - and, really, makes it more interesting. Today, we need it more than ever. Thank you Rick Steves !

I get the distinct feeling that, according to Mr Steves, Britain is not a principal interest for the American traveller. In all three lectures in this series his knowledge and descriptions of mainland Europe have been good (when he has to cover so much in about an hour) is left seriously wanting re British history, art and architecture I would value a few responses about this tentative supposition. Do Americans travel widely in the UK or is the focus mainly in Italy/France/Spain? Maybe Americans are convinced there’s not much of anything in Britain.......(I’m a Brit living 25 years in Italy)

catherine helen Carter I can only speak/write for myself here, but I’m an American who would prefer to travel to Britain first before anywhere else in Europe (though I did travel to Ireland nearly two years ago). I just love the history. In my experience, most Americans seem to have Italy at the top of their lists of desirable travel destinations, for some reason. Nothing wrong with Italy, obviously, but you’d think they’d like to start with a place where there would be no language barrier - for the most part.
