@@Michaelengelmann It depends on what books you read. Still, to be an expert means you know a lot about a particular subject. Like from your example, I can't imagine the ancient Egyptians were perfect surgeons, but they took account of their "procedures." In today's world, we have the experience and knowledge for safer and reliable surgery and such. So, while you may not have the physical experience of surgery, compared to the average joe, it is a safe bet to say you could do better surgery than Average Joe. Or at least have a more meaningful conversation with a surgeon after reading two or more books in the field of surgery.
