I quite like this initiative of Templeton. Art first started creating me when I was not yet two years old and it became necessary to draw, to lay out in the shared/negotiated space of the real, the entity in my mind of a Volkswagen Beetle. My mother saved the drawing and it is stored somewhere in papers today. I remember how driven I was BY THE IMAGE as I drew it, how it was like a living thing. In nominal, unthinking, language one may say "I am an artist", but the more meaningful statement is that the artist wells up, almost volcanically, to express itself with me.

ART ECONOMICAL MARKET looking at a problem from a different point of view providing reason perception logic & thinking the possibility to bring new & different solutions to problems that function as a system loop/ by adopting a different logic addressing the consequences of a problem rather than the problem itself can in the short/ long term bring new insights & understanding, giving a pause to the eternal circle of mistakes that plagues the system which functions on a perpetual creative destruction, from world war 2 to Marshall plan from the destruction of Ukraine to its reconstruction. I myself artist painter hope to gather something of that nature for the awakening of climate havoc and how perception is able to change behavior, from the inside out. Giving art mental representation a different meaning approach & distance it from the common economical art market of creative destruction.

Creative art could be, but must not be a way to higher understanding. Especially in music, states of awareness can change, widen, bring love, joy. A machine, AI, cannot do it. I completely reject such notion. With understanding we always relate to consciousness. There is no other understanding than in and through consciousness.

Neuroscientific techniques that limits itself to material inquiry can not solve aesthetic cognitive wonders whose answers belong to the world beyond the physical. Art is a product of man's strong desire in trying to materialize all the beautiful & horrible things he feels, that he knows not where it came from, so for people to see, feel, and to understand who can give some answers.... and some times the art can reveal some truths that the artist, who created it, was not even aware. No one can understand why an art can do this if you have no faith in the existence of God, Heaven, & Hell, where Heaven was once our Original Home before we ended in Hell and now on Earth for a chance of salvation.. Heaven is where we experienced the kind of happiness and joy that we can not find here in our physical existence but can only express and convey some of it through creating an art.... and Hell is where we experience pain and suffering after we fell from Heaven for losing faith in God's love. All our pasts were blocked from us so for a chance to regain our faith without knowing God so for us to return Home, this is why some of us can only feel some remnants of our pasts that we can only convey through creating arts. I BELIEVE.

Art is designed/structured to engage perception. Not cognitive understanding, well not immediately, but rather the unconscious pattern matching functions of the brain. when I listen to classical music, especially Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A major, K.622, I can 'feel' my brain responding to the music and the response is positive because the music is so well structured. Repetitive enough to engage with enough variation to raise interest. The argument is that the mental pattern matching performed to process music, painting, dance, etc. is also used to understand the reality around us.

Art might be a way to develop different venues of synesthesia. There was a Russian man who saw language in all 5 senses, colors, kinetics, hearing, taste and smell, but couldn't grasp abstract concepts. What if one could overcome that? Perhaps the structure of proteins could be unfolded or other brilliant leaps in carbon structure for instance, by being able to manipulate such complex models in one's head.

The art historian mentions cave paintings, but art is also sculptural form. Chimpanzees have been found to use the same shaped rock as a primitive tool to crush insects, nuts and berries, but the same rock is seen used in different chimpanzee groups going back 10,000 years. Our ancestors on the other hand had something go off in their consciousness which the chimpanzee has not, creativity. One of our primal ancestors could have seen their contemporaries using that rock, then seen a twine and a stick and then the spear was born. On and on this adaption to newer things lead to what we have now. So I'd argue that the cave paintings are just the first recorded paintings, not the first piece of art

“Are there other ways of knowing… I accept the possibility but I do not trust my capacity to discern what may be real from what is purely wished.” This is a restatement of the enlightenment idea that our ‘subjectivity’ can distort/deceive our view of “objective reality”. Optical illusions are the classic example. I am the only person I know who has who has made the claim that ‘objectivity can distort’. Particularly, it can distort a communication. For example, if you take a romantic John Williams piece, the (communicated) “meaning” of it _is_ the (subjective) effect of it on a human being. More technically, the interaction between a conscious human subject and the music itself. If you were strictly to be objective (removing the human subject altogether) and analyzing pages of printed-out frequencies from oscilloscopes (ignoring the felt effect) you would “miss” the meaning. You would miss the whole thing… What someone was trying tell you via all of who you are. Some things are communicated to us in a way that _are aimed at us as human subjects_ and it is our attempts to remove ourselves (as subjects) from the information/experiential quality of the thing that actually distorts it. Less formally, imagine your overly analytic friend who is falling in love. He is lost in cerebral considerations but perhaps would do better to navigate _with and within_ rather than “outside of” his own humanity. We are in this maze of strict materialism… Is our subjectivity _not_ real also? (It’s a different and more fundamental question than whether it perceives objects as they are). Why should we presume it is anything but as ‘real’ as materials? We’re again up against this question, not of whether objectivity is sometimes helpful but whether it is ‘comprehensive’… and we know it isn’t. We are the proof.

Closer to truth... well, painters see more details... musicians hear more nuances etc.. Is truth the ability to be aware of more informations? Like meditation or so? Movies are a little bit like therapeutical experiences, but (as David Mamet states for example) you give the characters room and good screenwriters don't "tell" stuff - like a simulation in an environment with an incident... Good movie characters have a life on their own so to speak... So, there might be constellations of experiences in movies, humans will never experience in real life - but where is the border between truth and lies? If we take Schleiermacher, we have a kind of truth always infront of us in real life... But these kind of experiences get holistic very fast... Our DNA has art patterns, looks nice... Hmmm, perhaps you can use art, to calculate with, draw lines in new kind of dimensions and solve problems you can't solve with common mathematics... But how does a line or multiplication look like in "art" and when is it just decoration? *justThinkingLoudly 😄☀️🌻

People don't have artist paintings or sculptures anymore, it's tragic that the west is getting so uncultured. The explosion of the art scene in the 20th century cultivated abstraction in human perception, and imagination, it's a great shame that it was so socially disconnected from the scientific community. Interestingly, a B.A. degree in mathematics used to fall under the arts category (bachelor of arts)..
