Hey, Denise! I can’t believe how wonderful those little stencil brushes worked. The colors came out so crisp and perfect. Well, now I have a few new things on my shopping list…Beam Paints is at the top. 🔝 I’ve been gone for quite awhile -life!- but hearing just hearing your voice, your giggle, and your personality shine through was like visiting a long-lost friend. I’m happy to be back. 😊

I can’t wait to get my Sketchbox this month! I adore Beam Paints. I have one and have been drooling over the rest of them. I have also discovered the Tempera Paint sticks. They’re harder to work with to get the effects I want, but they dry so fast and I can mark over them almost right away. And no smearing, even with watercolor
@2lilowlsstudio13 күн бұрын
Right? The beam paints were exciting! I think I just want to use the tempura sticks for mark making - like the big splotches I like. We’ll see. I like that they dry so fast, not sure how long they will last… but ok in a sketchbook. ☺️

I LOVE that Beam is getting more and more exposure!! A fantastic indigenous (Anishnaabe Kwe) owned company, operating on on their home reserve of the M’Chigeeng First Nation, and employing indigenous folks from different communities. I have a load of their paints, and they have unique sustainable packaging, and some really interesting and unique products. It's pretty awesome that Anong Beam and her community have this amazing business. :)

Always love your art hauls, Denise. Fun to see what is out there. I just joined Sketch Box Club for a year as they offered free shipping with their Black Friday deal. I’ve been wanting to do this for quite sometime and their email was compelling…I didn’t realize they were a small business based out of San Diego. I got the basic as I didn’t want to be inundated with supplies. I use the brushes for ink blending and stencils but can’t see why you couldn’t use them for water colors as dye inks are basically water colors. The color of the brush handle generally corresponds to the color family so you don’t contaminate the ink pads as you don’t clean them but rub them on a rough surface, like a paper towel or shop towel to get the excess off. Have fun and thank you. A big ol’ hug to you.🤗

You got some great goodies today, enjoy!! 😊 I have only used those types of brushes for my dye ink pads. I've never used them with watercolor; I'll give that a try. Something I love to do, after I stencil my pattern on a piece of paper, is to flip the stencil over to where the residual ink is, and spray a light mist of water on it. Then I place the wet/inky side of the stencil over a different blank piece of watercolor paper. I get a real cool watercolor effect of the other side of the stencil. I sure hope that makes sense! 🤦♀️😂 It's a fun ways I like to play with stencils, and I hope I can get it to work with watercolor.

I've been using the tempura paint sticks for the past few months and have had a lot of fun with them. I use them with stencils as well, only, I put down a thick layer like you would with modeling paste. It takes longer for them to dry of course, but the texture is awesome. The downside is that you go through them quite fast. Thankfully they are cheap! Great tip about the ink blending brush! Oh, and Sketchbox has done it again - Beam paints? Wow! I am going to have to rejoin that one of these days. How fun was that?

Depends on the color - all of the neons and the hot pink will fade even with minimal light exposure. All the other colors should be ok in the book. And that goes for any brand - not just the tempera paints I got.
