Yeah, same. I promised to myself a while ago to only buy things for specific projects (instead of just for fun) and to use up all the things I already have. And sometimes, although materials are pretty, I said to myself to not buy them again for envoirenment reasons. Like, I can't stand all those plastic pen barrels that go into the trash once they're used up. So I slowly switch to inks in glass bottles, use converters for fountain pens/ water brushes and hang on to my Copics bc they're refillable. XD It ain't easy but in the end I don't have too much stuff and can focus better on a few mediums.

Hi Tori How do you store your brushes and things? Does everything go into drawers or do you have some things out on your desk ready to use? Do you keep your watercolour pads with your paints or store them in a separate area? Sorry for all the questions. I only have my bedroom which I use also for my hobbies like watercolour, acrylic paints and sewing and am having a bit of an issue about how to store everything so I use it all but also keep my bedroom tidy and uncluttered. Any hints or ideas would be really appreciated. :)
@VictoriaGedvillas4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lesley! I store my brushes in little jars on top of my supply drawer and sorted according to usage, ie one cup of fancy expensive brushes to use with professional watercolors, one cup of brushes of affordable brushes to use with inexpensive paint that could damage my fancier brushes. Essentially what it comes down to is organizing to optimize my work flow. Things you grab for frequently, have them within arms reach. This can be a fun activity for you to do while tidying up your space! Think about what you really enjoy using and decorating your space with those items. About the watercolor paper, they are stored in a separate area, but it's not really necessary to do. It simply frees up my space to create. Clutter takes up my mental head space so having my work area clean helps me to create with less friction. Really does depend on you though! I have many art friends that thrive marvelously in clutter, do what you need to do to set yourself up for success. I hope this helps!!! Wishing you all the best on your tidying adventures :3 may it rejuvenate you

Whenever I came across a new medium I was like trying them all. Being a crafter in the first place made it even worse as every brand offers the own product like let´s say watercolor crayons. I decluttered stuff like colored pencils, brush pens, pastels which was easy because I was into watercolors. A year later I decluttered my watercolors as I had bought so many sets. Lately I am into acrylics but somehow I am not so engaged. Unlike watercolors where you find a ton of videos about favourite pigments, brands, brushes, papers, palettes aso there isn‘t a lot similar for acrylics. During my decluttering process I sometimes have a kind of love/hate relationship with some products like I sell them, miss them, buy them again, sometimes get rid of them a second time, but no now I want them back... In my opinion it is worth to invest in artist quality and to be not afraid to use your stuff. There are so much influences to get cheap art stuff and especially among crafters there is so much stuff around. So you often end up buying several cheap options to find the hidden gem while you could invest in better quality instead. Sometimes it is good to change a product to your needs. So maybe you are overwhelmed by your set of 120 colored pencils or your 48 watercolor tin. It might help to go for a smaller set instead of getting rid of the product in general. Vice versa, you might get better use out of it, when you combine smaller sets to get a large one. I also agree on having easy access to your stuff. For me, the best way is to store things like markers, pencils without their original packaging.
