Colored pencil leads that break usually break because they have been dropped, rolled off a table,or treated roughly in shipping and handling. I love Derwent Inktense pencils. I have almost every color. They are a water soluble ink pencils that can be blended either wet or dry, but the best part is they are permanent after water activated and let to dry. I use them as a first base coat, let it dry and then glaze over with my regular watercolors for details. You will love playing with the inktense pencils!

Oooh nice! I haven’t played with the inktense and water yet, but I like the sound of your process. I am probably a bit too rough and heavy with my Prismacolors, but I love how they look when I press hard so I’ll just deal with the broken tips. I do save them all, so maybe I’ll eventually make one of those multi-colour pencils or something!

Happy birthday! What a fun haul--thanks for sharing😊 I love Sennelier for plein air because it's almost impossible to overwork. I pop mine into a Portable Painter palette because I don't prefer the palettes they come in.

🤗💖✨ yeah the more you do, and the more you practice, the better you learn what mixes will achieve the desired colour! I’m just now realizing that ultramarine blue makes a much nicer (to me) green than phthalo 🤓

Awesome! I literally just picked up Monday the same Fluid brand paper.and a blue sketchy like your yellow one! I couldn't decide on colors, but stared at the Inktense pencils for almost an hour! You know those are like watercolor pencils, right? 😁 (Sarah Burns, I love her too. 😊)

Yes, but unlike watercolor pencils they set when you apply water. So once dry they dont re-blend (like ink!) They are the best.

I've never done the whole formal color swatch before, but I'm sure it's a very big help when you need to revisit mixing colors! Looks like you have some nice friends and family and hope you had a really lovely birthday! And before I forget, I did have one of those *Hamnhule* (who the heck knows how to spell it) watercolor sketchbook. It was the first one I used when getting back into keeping a sketchbook a couple years ago and the paper is wonderful, it lays nice a flat like a dream, BUT the cover material was so icky! It was a really weird material and I hated the feeling of it on my fingers (I even tried to paint it to change the texture but it didn't help- and I even talked about it in my first sketchbook tour) And you can't put stickers on it- BOO! So I think you made the right the choice! Congrats on all the lovely art treats!

Love the supply selection! I have to say I have turned into a bit of a shopaholic with art supplies lately, so for my birthday I got nothing but a tiny art book for myself haha. But omg did you get the Pentalic aqua sketchbook in Toronto?? Would love to know which art store has it here! I think I only saw it on Amazon and have been looking for a good watercolour sketchbook.

Yes! I got the sketchbook at “Above Ground” on McCall, the art supply store beside the AGO! I’ve used it a few times now and am really enjoying the paper. This haul was the first time I really went crazy all at once with art supplies, and while I won’t make a habit of it, it was a lot of fun!!

I break my tips all the time on my pencils thank the fudge im not alone....i thought it was me too...lol enjoyed video found it interesting and informative and fun helpful.i believeyou can put Arabic glue on bottom maybe to help them stick if they fall out but if they are senniler once they get wet the hiney binder will mske it more sticky and you shouldn't need the a. g...mikelle art mom..

Great haul, I can't wait to see what you create with them. Just a few things.... Be mindful not to drop pencils it makes them prone to break. Secondly, please don't lick the brushes it's a bad habit, the glue to hold the brushes is not something that should be ingested. And with that habit you might be tempted while painting to make it to a point with your lips. That's a no. Don't do it. I have had personal friends, artists in oil, ceramics and resin make poor decisions, and it was detrimental for their health. They are no longer with us. Do what you love, but safety first.

I’m not in a habit of dropping my pencils but maybe I’m a bit too rough and heavy with them! I have heard you can microwave them for a short time to melt the cores back together… I’ve tried it once and can’t really say it worked. I’m so sorry about your friend. I have also never had a prisms beak on me either. So I always wonder the same thing. They are meant to layer in light layers not scrubbing them to death on the paper.

What I was told, if you drop colored pencils it makes the lead weak and will be prone to break while coloring. That's any brand of pencil but with premium pencils the binder is a softer lead wax or oil. So either artists have a heavy hand or they have been dropped.
