Thieves adapt to the newest technologies along with everyone else. It's sad, but it won't stop. It can't stop because someone is always going to go for that "easy" buck. And it's easier to steal good art than to create it yourself.

@@Goovdluck687 Art thevies are heavily reported on, as they should be, but the problem isn't to the degree where 0% of the art on the internet is stolen. And even worse than having some art thief stealing some of your credit (which will only happen if you get big enough first) is not posting any art to have credit for at all. These videos are for entertainment (people love to get mad) and to help call out these people, but don't let them scare you into not making anything. Please post your art and don't stress yourself with what "might" happen 🙂👍

@@Not_Soundwave Oh yeah, or if you're into Traditional, sign your name in such alongside what you've been drawing in such a way, as in, that it can't be edited out without botching the entire drawing no matter how hard you try to patch it up or fix it and if you by some miracle, manage to, do it so flawlessly without making it look edited, or can't be cropped out without looking weird and unappealing. I absolutely love doing this, doesn't matter where it's hidden as long as it's obvious and it's gonna be a headache for thieves looking for a easy, non-time consuming steal to crop out or remove without ruining the entire thing, in the crevices, or bordering alongside an area that can't be cropped out at all in a really bright colour, I also have a tendency to hide it in a spot among the details in such a way people can see my signature but it's still very much a part of the piece itself. It also helps on my end that I have an art style that is hard to trace in some parts, especially in a finished piece when all the strategic detailing's worked in. Don't know if it can work with Digital Art as well, but it's a favourite technique of mine I'm planning on expanding upon.

I bought some cabochons years ago with portrait art printed on them on a Chinese wholesale jewelry supply site. I used them to make EGL pendants to sell. Last year, I started becoming an artist in earnest and, thus, became more conscious of art theft (previously, I was conscious of stolen fashion designs as a designer). This year, when I looked at my old pendants I made, I thought that the art was far too sophisticated/unique for the site I got them from. So, I did some research and found that the images were from a Japanese artist that I'm certain wouldn't have given them a license to make cheap cabochons with their art. So, I'm super glad that I never sold those pendants! And I never will. I don't even wear them myself!

They probably did their research and realized the "bad for the environment" argument is dumb. Whether the NFT exists or not, the mining will continue. If an NFT is created and you assign a portion of the mining to that NFT, by that logic, all we'd need to do is create billions and billions of NFTs and each one's portion of environmental impact would approach zero. And that's literally the only thing that even approaches being true about NFTs affecting artists. Art theft is definitely the much bigger issue, but as with Loish, if an artist has no intention of selling NFTs of their work, then they're not actually losing income. The intent in reporting the stolen work is to protect their IP because they can and to protect consumers from getting scammed.

The NFT art thieves have zero shame. They bully, mock, and harass artists for refusing to make NFTs of their work. They infringe copyright and illegally disperse NFTs without an artists' consent. They have even stolen art for NFTs from artists *who are deceased.* Yes, family members and fans of artists who have passed away have found NFTs of their loved one's artwork being dispersed and profited off of without their consent. (The most notable I can think of is Qinni's artwork, but I think there were others which created less of an angry wave in the art community since Qinni was such a dearly loved artist and was struggling for so long.) They even change their tactics depending on where in the world they are and which market they're in. I've heard that in Japan, they're trying to trick artists into thinking it's a method of passing on rights of the art pieces to their commissioners and that it reduces the risk of art theft by embedding into the token the information about who created and who owns the piece. All lies. All they're doing is exploiting artists worldwide with lies and deception in hopes of making money off of the artists' work.

One idea is: If she was in the US and registered her work to get it officially copyrighted with the US Copyright Office, she could sue anyone that steals her work and get $200 to $150,000 for each work infringed upon. Not sure how they settle that in the EU. It would be a headache to register each piece, or at least all of the pieces she cares the most about, but with her fame, registering and having a good lawyer in her back pocket would probably in her best interest in the long run. And it offers more legal protection and perks than just a watermark or suing without registering. Yes, any artist is automatically given copyrights to their piece at the moment of creation, but-if you officially register a piece within three months of publication/creation or before an infringement occurs, you are ALSO entitled to statutory damages and your legal fees. Fun things I learned studying editorial illustration in college where copyrights and contracts are king.

While I share your sentiment, I've got some even more unfortunate news about this. Yes, you can share phots and post about the original artist when you see this kind of art theft. But the unfortunate reality is that 90% of the time, when it comes to reporting, unless you are an owner of a work or IP and/or have a lawyer, YOU CAN'T REPORT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S BEHALF. KZbin has been stopping us for years from doing that.

This has been said since NFTs got popular, besides how unethical the business is to begin with, it encourages art theft and it runs creativity down to the ground cause all these people want to do is make a buck, regardless if they deserved it or not.

Yeah, this is one reason why I want nothing to do with NFTs anymore. I did mint ten editions of an NFT on Rarible - of my very first proper digital art piece from 2010 - but of course, that never sold. I’ve since considered burning said NFT, but I don’t want to waste my money on the ridiculous gas fees required to do so. I even recently turned down a illustration job offer from someone who found me on ArtStation, because that job involved NFTs. Sure, it might have made me some money, but I do have principles. On a side note, I am a proud backer of Loish’s newest Kickstarter. 😎

Historically, artists have always had to deal with the combination of art thieves, exploitation and new technology threats, all working together seemingly against the interests of the artists. In the end though, artists have had to unwillingly embrace these new technology and use it in direct and indirect ways to battle exploitation and thieves. As an example think about the history of photography and visual artists. I think sooner or later artists have to turn their creativity on tackling how to use NFTs to their benefit to deal with art thieves and earn profit for a living.

If the nft does not link back to Loish herself....its automatically worthless. All she has to do is post that she doesnt do NFTs. It is up to the buyer to do their research. Exactly like you do before buying anything. You benefit from nfts due to it being instantly verifiable and the lifetime royalties built into it everytime its sold anywhere. Thats the benefit artists have with nfts.

I am pretty sure because of the insane amount of art theft, many scammers are selling the same stolen artwork (they do not own) on multiply platforms, which will have a bunch of scammed ppl who end up owning an nft tied to the same work (that the creator never agreed to ever be sold and so the artist is the sole and rightful owner by law). I hope the whole NFT market collapses as soon as possible.

A lot of artists have been able to make good money with NFTs, which is great. I personally don't blame "NFTs" for this stealing thing tho. Art stealing have been an issue for years, even when Digital Art was not a thing. Just because there are some stupid art stealers doesn't mean the concept is wrong, specially for the ones who are doing it in right way. I don't buy or sell NFTs and I have no plans whatsoever for them, but if they help some deserving artists make their life, it will be great. A lot of critics about NFTs I saw are already dropping their NFTs lol, which is good. I am sure this will continue to grow for some years now, and hopefully this environment problem will be solved as well. Good luck to all making NFTs, may you get what you want.

She really SHOULD have people to back her up legally for as big as she is. I am kind of shocked she doesn't by this point. On another note: Perhaps artist communities should start hiring hackers to take down these seedy users and sites. I think this fight needs to get a bit ugly for these things to stop.
