You are so right about the cost of food! We are retired seniors raising 4 grandkids (with no monetary help) and have watched the cost of food literally double and more since Covid. I try to cook from scratch, but I’m so tired most days that any helps with snacks, fun foods, etc., is a blessing. I have quit canning and cut way back on freezing and also just grow a “summer” garden for eating during the summer. I don’t have the energy to grow and process food anymore. I was feeling guilty, but now I see that I’m doing the best I can and you know what, it warms my heart to see smiles on the kids faces when they get special snacks and treats. Thank you, Bri, and wishing you all the blessings you so deserve 💗

Thank you for saying what a lot of us are doing, we can't afford organic. I've never been able to afford it and sometimes made to feel like I'm abusing my son for not buying organic. I've said for a long time that a scratch made meal is healthier than an organic processed one.

Dont ever apologize for your purchases. You do whats best for your family. You got this. We had six kids in our family and one income. Mom did the best she could with limited funds. I remember many a night all we had was a big platter of corn on the cob and sliced buttered bread for dinner. It was rare to have snacks. We ate a lot of jello as a treat. We never thought of us as poor we always had each other.

Oh dear Bri. You don't need to feel bad or guilty about how you are feeding your children. You have been through a lot over the last couple years. You have been both mom and dad and more importantly their stability when your world was in chaos. Your children will not come back to you in 10 years and blame you for not giving them organic food. It is evidence by the flowers they picked for you. So please don't apologize for what you buy. You are an AWESOME Momma!😊

Grocery prices have gotten ridiculous. I've been on a mission to keep our bill down and one way (of many) that I do that is making our own yogurt. My daughter eats yogurt twice a day so we were going through a lot. It's really easy and only takes a hour or so and it's easy enough for one of the kids to do. Take 1 gallon of milk, heat it to 180, then cool it to 110, add 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt, cover pot and wrap well with a towel to keep warm. Let sit at least 6 hours, I always let it sit overnight. I strain it through a cheesecloth the next day because we like it thick. Add sweetener of your choice and vanilla. Ta-da yogurt. Easy and delicious. Take out some before sweetening it and you can use it as sour cream.

I do a once a month 2-8 packs of bone in chicken thighs ,I boil them till falling off the bones can 2/3 meat with broth then I book down bones and skins for bone broth,1lbs hamburger meat ,make meatloaves in widemouth jars, meat balls,Salisbury steaks and cooked hamburger, and make gravy too go over the meat for canning. So fast meals just add mashed potatoes, veggies or salad. I do these meals for fast meals during seasonal canning days and winter meals, and chicken soup, and veggie soup and next will be catfish chowder. When I do got the catfish this year. And hit your Amish stores they have bulk rice, beans and butter, fresh cows milk. My brother makes the trip each month for us all. I us the thick cream for making my biscuits and freezing for breakfast sandwiches. I switched too pints for 2 persons. Cause I'm on a low income. And also can porkloin chunks and slices. They also have gallon jars for sell too. And replacement lids for odd sized lids. Herbs and spices.

As a retiree, the two of us have turned our former 'careers' into senior life management. As strange as it might sound, sometimes I think we are more connected and together than before. We delight in the savings the other has found and then collaborate into turning that into satisfying meals - plus the occasional 'necessary' treat to share. I.. I don't know Bri how you pull this off. All the best to you and the family.

You’re doing just fine. It would be nice if you could feed your kids organically and from scratch. That’s not reality right now, and that’s ok! I have noticed young women these days seem to make a huge idol of how “clean” they feed their kids, like the health of the body is the ultimate in life. I think you are doing better than the vast majority because you feed your children’s SOULS with so much healthy food, they thrive because you are such a great mom! Jesus is so much more important than organic food! You remind me of me when my kids were your kids’ ages. We were so busy, I told people we were “carschooling” instead of homeschooling! So many activities!

Just do what you're able to do for you and your family. Pay no attention to the negative people who doesn't have anything else to do except to complain about what you and other parents are doing to your children. It's not like their lives are perfect cause they're not so they don't have the right to put you and other parents down. You're doing the best you can do for you and your family of nine. Someday you'll be able to get back to the lifestyle you're living out at the farm but it'll take baby steps to get back to that. May God bless you all ♥️ 🙏

The flowers moment from the kids my heart 💕My kids grew up the same and we eventually did need some bought snacks etc., and they got very much healthy as well. So nothing is wrong with anything you are doing. A wonderful up bringing is what they remember. But they also will remember good eating they do, and it will instill in them and that will be their first choices to make. Of course the snacky stuff too and some fast food but I am so proud of mine 23 and 25 how they chose to eat and it's because of how we raise them. Grace and Joyful already love the good food cooking :) A little junk food is good for our souls anyway haaa. The costs of the two hauls is amazing. hugs

all the recipes come from My Mom and our dairy farm unless stated otherwise In the summer we would have family and friends come over for a Bar-be-cue which included Barbecue meat from animals we raised and butchered ourselves. The old fashion Ice Cream cranks (at least 2) with old towel for one of the kids to set on and several people to turn the crank. After my Mom died I took her Brown recipe box and any other special recipes and saved them to my Recipe files. I also took her favorite recipes from all her Farm Journal cookbooks and put in my file. Along with a Family Recipe book I made years ago for each of my brothers(3) and sisters (2) and mine and made it for each of my brothers & sisters and their children and my Mom for Christmas presents. I am so glad I did because both my parents are dead and my oldest sister and 2 of my brothers. Now my nieces and nephews and my 3 teen grandchildren will have those recipes. Recipe for: Butter Pecan Ice Cream From the Kitchen of: Esther Alderson Ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar 1 envelope Knox gelatin 1 Tbsp. cornstarch 4 cups milk 3 beaten eggs Ingredients: 1 Tbsp. vanilla 1/3 cup butter (cut up) 2 cups whipping cream 1 cup packed brown sugar 3/4 cup chopped toasted pecans Recipe instructions: Combine sugars, gelatin and cornstarch in large pan. Stir in half of milk. Cook till mixture thickens. Stir one cup of mixture into eggs yolks. Return to pan, cook 2 minutes. Stir in butter and whipped whipping cream and pecans. Cool and freeze. Chocolate Ice Cream makes 1 gallon From the Kitchen of: Esther Alderson Ingredients: 2 cups sugar 1/4 cup flour 1/2 tsp. salt 4 squares (1 oz. each) chocolate, cut up Ingredients: 4 cups milk 4 eggs, beaten 2 cups (1 pint) heavy cream 2 cups Half & Half 2 Tbsp. Vanilla Recipe instructions: Combine sugar, flour, salt and chocolate pieces. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir over low heat until thickened and chocolate has melted. Add a small amount of hot mixture to eggs and mix well. Return to hot mixture. Cook and stir 1 minute. Remove form heat and chill. Add heavy cream, half & half and vanilla to custard. Turn into 1 gallon freezer can. Freeze as directed with your freezer. Four-Three Ice Cream Makes 1 gallon From the Kitchen of: Esther Alderson Ingredients: 3 cups heavy cream 3 cups milk 3 cups sugar 3 cups pureed ripe strawberries Juice of 1/2 of a lemon 1/2 tsp. salt Recipe instructions: Combine heavy cream, milk, sugar, and salt. Turn into a 1 gallon freezer can and churn-freeze 10 minutes. Mix lemon juice with pureed strawberries. Open freezer can and add pureed strawberries. close container and continue freezing as directed with your freezer. Fresh Strawberry Ice Cream Makes: 1 gallon From the Kitchen of: Esther Alderson Prepare Vanilla Ice Cream without adding vanilla. Freeze until mixture starts to thicken. Open freezer and stir in 1 1/2 cups fresh crushed lightly sweetened strawberries. Continue freezing until hard. Fresh Peach Ice Cream: Prepare Vanilla Ice Cream using 1 Tbsp. vanilla and 2 tsp. almond extract. Freeze until mixture starts to thicken. Open freezer and stir in 1 1/2 cups fresh crushed lightly sweetened peaches. Continue freezing till hard. Fresh Strawberry Ice Cream - woodland paper (1990's) From the Kitchen of: Esther Alderson Ingredients: 4 cups Half & Half 4 cups pureed fresh strawberries (or frozen strawberries, thawed) 1 cup sugar 1 tbsp. vanilla extract Ingredients: 2 eggs 1 cup sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 3 cups whipping cream Recipe instructions: Combine pureed fresh strawberries, half & half, 1 cup sugar, and vanilla; cover and refrigerate. Beat eggs 2 minutes on high speed in a mixing bowl, Add 1 cup sugar and the salt to the eggs and beat for an additional 2 minutes, Stir in whipping cream. Transfer to saucepan and cook over medium heat until mixture begins to simmer, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours. Have Arthor too check the aldi dumpsters I do and have canned the fruits and veggies up for my pantry. And I visited them on Wednesday and every other Friday witch is truck days and yes everything I get is on top in their bags. It helps me too be able too buy more meats each month. And yes cases of jellies jams, pineapple, green beans, potatoes, veggie soups, carrots, and diced carrots and potatoes mixed for pot pie ,shepards pie. With the mixed green beans and potatoes I just add polish sausage cut coins too the crock pot meal frees up so much time for busy days. I've even used meatballs it or the mixed carrots and potatoes for stew. Just if you do can the meatloaf raw put a dent into the center of the jar so it doesn't a no seal. You would have too do wide mouth quarts for your large family.

Somehow thin video has been waiting for me to watch. I must say we bought our organic black beans from Aldi until I found a case of organic black beans at Costco for under $.75 a can, we also get our sourcream and butter from Costco at 2# for $9.99 (95% grass-fed, same as Kerigold or the Aldi brand,(is also 95% grass-fed dairy) the sourcream is Daisy brand is under $6 for the huge tub, their bulk cheese is also cheaper at Costco. Costco grass-fed Australian lamb is $4.99@# for a leg of lamb, which would also be a great meat for your size family! I must say that grilled leg of lamb tastes like Ribeye. It would be great if you had an adult day at Costco to see all the goodies they do carry. We get our organic 10" tortillas there too. There are so many great choices for organic or very clean foods. Their assortment of clean foods and their price for Avocado oil is better than the smaller bottles we bought at Aldi. We buy Kirkland organic half and half at Costco cheaper than Aldi. It is worth looking through what they have at Costco! I am "assuming" you are shopping at the Charlotte Costco, check out if Mooresville is maybe closer or the same distance because I know they have similar items we also have at our Winston Salem Costco. Cleaner and less cost is what we all must find!

There are electrolyte powder packets you mix in a water bottle at Aldi's. They have many flavors. Not a mom but my husband is allergic to poultry so you can imagine how much I have to make from scratch. My 'cheats' include granola bars and preformed burgers.. I have had people say stuff like oh but those burgers would be easy to make. Yes it's true but when 90 to 95 percent of what you eat is homemade little cheats need to exist..We also rarely go out to eat. So far this year 3 times with the exception of our trip to see family 1100 miles away.

You had a great haul....love your snack selections....kids need snacks in their life for sure....I never buy organic since I learned years ago the rules applied to them are so few and overlooked and still classified as such...the only way you know for sure is if you grow or make yolur own.....time is at a premium when you have young children and them involved in activities and school....Food prices are outrageous for sure...you and Art are great parents ...

We used rice crispie (Aldias brand ) treats with non corn surupe marshmallows. When my kids were small alot of zucchini in there lunches no meat. Maybe nuts and yogurt.😊

I call cashews 'happy snacks'. They are full of the kinds of minerals that balance basic hormones. And cucumber dill (pickle) is one of those magical umami things that is good for overall health. Cereal for dinner is better than no dinner.

Once every 2 weeks I boil up potatoes and eggs for quick breakfast And salads for lunches. Am.fries & hash browns and I cook up hamburger, onions, potatoes and scrambled egg topped with cheese skillet we eat a meal then a make up burritos for the freezer for later . Please check your lunch meats. About 1-2 weeks ago there were articles about listeria outbreaks in many states. Not sure if they pinpointed brands yet or not.

I am new to your channel, I enjoy seeing your grocery hauls, I am in awe of you. Bri, you said a very encouraging thing to all moms, that bad moms don't feed their children, and that we are good moms if we feed our children. I will be 72 next month, I am a widow, but have all 4 of my adult children living with me. And I still cook for them. What are your thoughts on this?

Yip our butternut per Kg has tripled in price in the last 4 years😳 our milk prices have doubled plus some our eggs have quadrupled...what we noticed here in SA is anytime the big supermarkets have ridiculous savings and sales it means the prices are going up (yet again) after the sale ends...so stock up where you can and never feel guilty...these ridiculous prices of food should feel guilty...if I were you I would go back and grab even MORE of those good deals👌

Have you freeze dried your cilantro? I think that is a small haul for a family of your size. I love Saltines also. Great deals! Organic is extremely expensive. Yes I try to get especially for the grandkids but it depends on price. My nephew really like Prime drinks.
