Thank you to Christophe Rousset, Max Emanuel Cenčić and the other performers for "bringing to life" this brilliant piece. In the beginning there is the fault - a man disrespects a God - who decides to punish him. Agamemnon has outraged Diana by killing one of the deer she protects, she condemns him to lose the one he protects, his daughter Iphigenia.

An absolutely spectacular achievement by everybody involved! I had never heard this relatively rarely performed work before but believe it has been unfairly neglected. The setting of Bayreuth's Margravial theatre is magnificent and the inventiveness of using the fine stage faithfully to depict the inevitably quite complex plot was pure magic. The soloists, especially the three countertenors/sopranists, were quite extraordinary. Cençic, also the imaginative stage director, sang with his usual mastery, bringing to life.his role. Balducci, certainly the youngest, fulfilled all the expectations raised by earlier performances with his beautiful voice and persuasive stage craft. It's impossible to avoid hyperbole when describing the utterly beguiling voice of Licht: limpid, yearning magic in his quieter aria and magisterial authority and truly fantastic coloratura in his other major aria. Three absolute superstars at their very best! All other parts were sung with considerable skill. The playing of les Talens Lyrique, with Christophe Rousset directing made all this extraordinary talent perform at a level which would be impossible to rival let alone better.❤

А мне понравилось, что голые юноши в начале оперы под самый конец появляются на сцене уже с признаками цивилизации на бёдрах. Значит, жертва Ифигении не осталась бесследной для их культурного развития. И вся Европа после Греции стала закрывать низ живота! Очевидно, это и есть квинтэссенция оперы. И ещё одно: когда я услышал, как Ахилл поёт тем же высоким голосом, что и Ифигения, я, наконец, понял, почему боги не захотели, чтобы она стала его женой. Она была бы просто несчастной с таким "мужиком"!

Why rare a set decoration and costumes? If the orchestra, choirs and soloists play historical music, the set decoration and costumes should also be in keeping with the Baroque era and the music. Some of the clothes look like they came from a BDSM party.
