Artesia Trash Cart Rollout

In this video, we've got CR&R's crew of temporary workers rolling out new trash, recycling and green waste Toters to residents of Artesia, CA for their new trash & recycling service which began on November 9th, 2015. The company has replaced the old Monday & Tuesday collection zones with a new Monday thru Friday route map, with the rollout featured taking place on the then-future Friday route. This happens to be the same area I filmed Republic's trucks collecting the trash a few days prior to. I would like to point out that CR&R has made a very good improvement with the blue lids used for the recycling carts, by switching from navy blue to light blue. These are much easier to identify in the dark or when sunlight hits it at an angle to where drivers cannot tell if it's recycling or trash. They've been starting to make their way into Newport Beach as well. One of the crew members wasn't a big fan of me filming the rollout process so that's why you don't see him often compared to all the others. And one other member on the crew is an example to the saying "There's someone else in the world that looks just like you", as he looks and sounds similar to famous guitarist Dave Navarro.

Great video! I would be surprised if Napa sold their contact to CR&R too. But I think we are to small of a city to have a big commercial hauler.

Do you personally prefer all black cans with the different color kids, or all color cans? I kind of like the idea of just the lids, although I'd use red, yellow and green likely just cause it's cool

They're actually a dark granite green color. I have family member who live in another city with the same hauler and similar cart colors. Dark green cart with blue lid for trash, gray for recycling, and green for green waste. I would have preferred different colored carts since that green is my least favorite shade.

The old cans belong to the previous trash hauler. The city did not own them, and they weren't inherited by the new company.

Dwano Brayhoof I guess because Toters and Ottos etc are cheaper. Rotos are some of the best carts ever and I wish companies still bought them. The new rotos are really cool.

+TrashMaster684 There's always Whittier for carts. I haven't been back to see but I wouldn't be surprised by ZR's. Artesia is handled by corporate, rather than the Santa Fe Springs yard so no chance of a Rapid Rail there.

Any idea why CR&R didn't reuse some of the bodies from older bins from like the city of Orange that were still in good condition? When we ask for a replacement (only for the green container) that's all they give us haha reused ones.

Probably because it was a new contract. Sometimes when they get Toters back from anywhere, they'll wash some and put them in the "ready to go" stock for the cart guys. As long as they are still looking good and not to scratched and such. For Costa Mesa they just spray paint over the green waste labels and put a sticker on that says "Trash only", and they look awful when the paint begins to peel off. I think for them they should really just hand out the leftovers from Newport since they're technically green. Just have a black lid.

+Sanitation94 yeah they should. I can already imagine how bad they would look when the paint comes off. Here in La Habra, they give us the ones in the "ready to go" pile haha. My recent green bin was swapped and I got one of the newer ones. When my neighbors ordered new ones they received old ones though so I guess it depends. I would want to work for CR&R for a bit just to get the experience

The navy & gray granite bins are leftovers from Lake Forest, and I'm sure by now they would have had to buy more with everyone replacing bins simply because of the name on the sides. I think they should only replace La Habra's if they're actually broken, because right now they're only finishing WM's contract where they left off, and who knows if they'll stay when it goes up for bid again. It would be pointless to replace everyone's cans and then have to get new ones in a few years again.

+Sanitation94 yeah I noticed everyone is replacing them. There is a total of 23 new CR&R bins just on my street. Imagine the rest of the neighborhoods haha. I mean many of the USA Waste Toters are cracked believe it or not. I think the sun finally got to them as they are becoming more brittle and just weak. Another reason could be that people want new bins because some people are just too lazy to rinse them out. When does the contract end here in La Habra? How does the bid thing work out? Wouldn't CR&R have priority ?

From what I heard they haven't gone out to bid since the 70's. But if they do, then CR&R can submit a bid along with other haulers. And like I said before, as long as there's still a light green WM Roto still around, I'm good. That's made it's way to my want list.

That's the van used to transport the crew. The outhouse is utilized just in case someone's gotta go.

Yes. All of that except palm fronds and poison ivy.
