For me, Klimt is still one of the most exiting painters of the last 200 years. His breadth of styles, his inventiveness and his accessibility were spectacular. I doubt if anyone who has seen 'Judith' has ever forgotten it, and not gone on to explore more of his work. The perennial question should be: "What do artists, other than Klimt, do all day?"
@ArtHistorySchool3 жыл бұрын
Klimt was a great artist. The only problem is this artist is called Klint and is a woman and she painted most of her days..
@greghill77593 жыл бұрын
@@ArtHistorySchool A thousand pardons, but I have no idea who, or what 'this artist' is you're talking about, unless you mean Hilma Klint, who apparently spent all day determined to reach the other side. Are you saying the video is about Klint, and SHE painted 'The Kiss', and all the others?

Fascinating artist and life and one of my favorite artists from the Art Nouveau period. and Secession movement in Vienna! He could have been a fashion illustrator like I was in NYC before retiring and having my own art business. Now I paint fairly big paintings as well as small ones in acrylic and am amazed that some of the elements in his paintings have inadvertantly made their way into my paintings, minus the jewels though I've used gold plated paint. Read that he had many affairs and illegitimate children as well. Fellow cat lover like myself and the quintessential artist back in the day! Thanks for sharing , love looking at all the details of his great work and wonderful portraits which I've done as well. In my teens I studied with a portrait teacher from the Yale School of Art and he was wonderful. We'd do art work on the deck of his ultra modern home in the woods on summer days in our bare feet! Still love to paint in the summer in my bare feet as well outdoors on my deck, too.Like your vest, too, nice~
@ArtHistorySchool2 жыл бұрын
You have led a fascinating life and obviously had a wonderful art education. Klimt was a stunning painter and I'm glad you enjoyed my video. Interesting that you like my 'vest'. Here it is known as a waistcoat ,we would know a vest as an item men might wear under a shirt. Cheers
@brendadrew8342 жыл бұрын
@@ArtHistorySchool Yes, in the states here we call that a vest. I also love to wear vests and have a few of them myself. Never got to beautiful Vienna but my oldest daughter did while she took a river boat excursion down the "Blue Danube"! Would have loved to visited there and Beethoven and Schubert's graves along with Brahms. Vienna the city of great music/composers and desserts mit schlag! Got to other European countries, so that may be on my bucket list! So many great historic sites to see and visit. I'm not like some Americans in the Bible Belt and down south. This Yankee New Englander with family history here since the 1600s/1700s, has my head and heart in Europe most of the time since my forebears were from the U.K. Scotland/Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Holland! Deep roots all the way back to the Vikings on my maternal side per my DNA test from Ancestry.com. and per a geneologist who did our family history in 1940. Found more fascinating facts on the internet as well which connects us all in more ways than one, small world.

This was a great learning experience that took almost no time to watch. I didn't realize Klimt had a artistic brother or a 20 year steady main female companion over his long bohemian existence. I also learned a great many other interesting facts. What comprehensive yet short video. Strangley the painting Die Jungfrau I don't even think I saw once during the whole short biography, one of my favorites. How interesting he was and how unmistakably and unquestioning ingenious. Some of his paintings in his garden look so much like Monet. Some of his Italian villa painting look a great deal like Cezanne. The biggest art nova and symbolist painter without question, art deco also probably deeply in debt.

Gustav Klimt had a gift of combining an explosive color treatment with the subdue reflection of a woman as if she were projected from a mirror. The colorful and drastic attire would consume the subject as if the face were a second thought to the painting itself. My favorite 9:45 Adele Bloch-Bauer 1907. His work has a signature style recognizable upon first glimpse and awe inspiring to the very core of your being.

He certainly knew women and they certainly knew him. There is definitely a frisson at play in many of his paintings.
@ArtHistorySchool3 жыл бұрын
It was mostly wealthy women who had their portraits painted by Klimt and his reputation was well known. Yet they seemingly became involved with him, probably because they were bored with their lives in the elitist, conservative society in which they lived. Klimt was definitely not a saint, but remember it takes two to tango! You make many assumptions about him, and I have no wish to defend him, but life is not as black and white as you would like to make out.

Lovely !! Love Klimt...a daily influence on my work as an artist...I gravitate to gold lately.. I laughed when you said it annoyed his patrons that he worked on several pieces at the same time! I do the same..guess we get bored otherwise 😀 thanks for your video

@@ArtHistorySchool I love Klimpt. I have about half a dozen full size properly painted 'copies' which are as bright as the originals, but without the worry of having something original actually on a wall outside a bank vault. It's amusing to walk up the stairs in my ancient watermill and bump into that large portrait of Emily Floge in the blue dress on the turn in the stairs..... I have a Jack Vettriano, 'Bluebird', which is a copy of the 'original Vettriano, which is, of course, a copy of another artist's painting of the identical subject, which is itself based on another person's photograph..... Keep up the good work!

I had the great pleasure of seeing the Kiss in Vienna last year, whilst on holiday. I was bought to tears to finally see it in the flesh, so to speak.
