I am so happy to have found this! I took a couple of your classes during my bachelors (Modern and Contemporary, sadly I wasn't able to take your non-western but always heard great things). I'm now sharing your lectures with my students for supplemental lectures during a summer online course. I hope you're doing well!

The famous “ancient” wolf statue has recently been discovered to be medieval. The Putti, of course, have always been known to be Renaissance additions.

overwhelmingly great. so many profound concepts folded into concrete examples . i am highly highly impressed. but one mistake. Rome in not situated in the Campania. Rather Lazio (modern Italian name).

Ive now planned a holiday to go to Montpellier and then do a day trip to Nimes because of this (we were originally thinking cannes) but this is going to be way better!

the scene from Monty Python actually follows a story in Talmud (not sure they were aware of it). There the conversation is between four rabies, when the first says "how wonderful Roman deeds are, they built markets, and bridges, and bathes", while another answers him "all they did they did for their own good, built markets to put there whores, built bathes to please themselves, built bridges to collect taxes". Eventually, this conversation is reported to the Romans and the speaker is forced to hide in a cave for ten years.

No kidding?! That's fantastic. Do you have source on that? Leave it to Monty Python to be that well read. lol.

@@arthistorywithtravisleecla6343 the source is the Talmud, very dull reading i must note. The citation as it appears in the english translation is " Rabbi Yehuda and Rabbi Yosei and Rabbi Shimon were sitting, and Yehuda, son of converts, sat beside them. Rabbi Yehuda opened and said: How pleasant are the actions of this nation, the Romans, as they established marketplaces, established bridges, and established bathhouses. Rabbi Yosei was silent. Rabbi Shimon ben Yoḥai responded and said: Everything that they established, they established only for their own purposes. They established marketplaces, to place prostitutes in them; bathhouses, to pamper themselves; and bridges, to collect taxes from all who pass over them. Yehuda, son of converts, went and related their statements to his household, and those statements continued to spread until they were heard by the monarchy. They ruled and said: Yehuda, who elevated the Roman regime, shall be elevated and appointed as head of the Sages, the head of the speakers in every place. Yosei, who remained silent, shall be exiled from his home in Judea as punishment, and sent to the city of Tzippori in the Galilee. And Shimon, who denounced the government, shall be killed" Talmud, Shabbatt tractate, 33 www.sefaria.org.il/Shabbat.32a.2?with=all&lang=bi

So, when you say the Romans overthrew the Etruscans are you referring to the Latins?
