If this was a Netflix series, it would be SO MUCH better than everything else on the platform.

1:30 Love how nonchalantly and comedically Adams basically told us Arthur has accepted his death and actively wants to commit suicide throughout this entire convo

At 1:02, the line, "If the good Lord had meant us to walk he'd have given us sneakers!" is one of the most subtly ironic things in the series.

@@mrbenoit5018 if I am correct, this bird is one of Frogstar World B, in which there is a short anecdote in Adams' 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe', explaining that the planet's economy had become so lopsidedly dependent on the sale of sneakers that the entire economy collapsed, and the entire population nearly died as a result, with the only survivors evolving into large birds who swore never to walk or touch the ground again.

Fantastic stuff. I guess I'm late to the party, but just I had to comment to add my adoration for the animator. The BBC radio broadcast of the Guide is probably the best version of the series, and these snippets animation certainly add to it. The BBC should throw some money at the animator and make a full length animated companion to the radio broadcast. Keep up the good work. I haven't checked for more clips yet, but I will. I do hope there are more. All hail Douglas Adams, btw.

This is how I remember the original radio series going. Played on NPR as a serial! (Addendum: NPR = National Public Radio in the US. It is mostly funded by voluntary donations from listeners although it also gets some various gov’t funding too. So it is not like a traditional national broadcaster as a European or Canadian would understand it.)

Didn’t John Lloyd help with the writing towards the end as Douglas getting further and further behind with the writing. Stories of Douglas’s scripts literally been torn from the typewriter to studio so the next scene could be recorded. Wikipedia has it that John co-wrote some of series one but as this part is series two and never reprised in any other format by Douglas I think quite likely the above story applies.
