@Joseph Schauster Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Arthur Haley. Made in the early- to mid-1980s, it was designed as a series for Bette Davis as the manager of the (fictional) St Gregory Hotel in San Francisco. Davis played Laura Trent until she was laid low through bad health, replaced by Anne Baxter as her cousin (!) Victoria Cabot. Then Anne Baxter died in 1985 and I think the show was shelved. It was all divinely cheesy and very glitz and glamour in the vein of Dynasty.
@rwboa222 жыл бұрын
@@andrewthornhill7042 you are partially right, however the format of "Arthur Haley's Hotel" was more along the lines of Aaron Spelling's other popular ABC network TV show, "The Love Boat", in which you would have several mini-stories intertwined together in each episode. The biggest difference was that unlike the light-hearted scripts of "The Love Boat", "Hotel" delved into more serious subject matter, some of them controversial by 1980s standards such as HIV/AIDS, thus that show came on during the 10 PM (Eastern Time) hour (whereas "The Love Boat" was more of a 8 or 9 PM show). People even called "Hotel" "The Love Boat without the laugh track."
@andrewthornhill70422 жыл бұрын
@@rwboa22 Yes, I know that 'Hotel' followed the 'Love Boat' formula, as did 'Fantasy Island', but the idea came from the Haley novel and later the 1967 movie.

Basically, the Love Boat was Hotel located at sea. Hotel was the Love Boat right in the city. One moved and the other one didn't. These two shows were interchangeable and I was never really crazy about one. I bet you the worst jobs on these two shows had to a part of the many writers for each of the different shows they had on these two shows. Every week having to come up with different stories or storylines for all the different plots and characters on these shows. Also having to think up and write dialogue for the main cast and many different guest stars who appeared on the shows would have driven me completely crazy or right up the wall. Almost impossible to do well on a regular basis.

@@LogoMan7777 TL;DR: everything is "just a joke" and "everyone is a snowflake" until it's directed at them. Bragging about walking in on naked teenagers with impunity is "just words, just locker room talk." (To speak of "mere words" is much like speaking of "mere dynamite" - C.J. Ducasse.) John McCain is "not a hero" was "just sharing an unpopular opinion" and oh, by the way, let's drag out that long-debunked "songbird" story to validate it. "Blood coming out her whatever" was an appropriate response to ostensibly tough questions by Megyn Kelly, as if POTUS candidates shouldn't be able to answer tough questions. All those are perfectly acceptable rhetoric. Alec Baldwin makes a few jokes about him, though, and we're looking into having Alec Baldwin audited and SNL pulled off the air. No, seriously, he did.
