My husband and I visited New York for the first time from the UK in March 2002. In essence to leave our prayers at Ground Zero and show New York we stood with them. As a distraction from our sadness we picked tickets at random from the ticket office in Time Square and went along to see this production. My word it was so powerful. Laura's interpretation showed a quiet grace, determination and inner strength. Liam's John Proctor was both controlled, powerful, physically and emotionally strong. We picked this off Broadway play totally by chance but hearing everyone here ..... the theme resonates so powerfully with 9/11/2001. We left the theatre that night in silence. The vulnerability and security of a community and a nation from throw away retorical threats that resulted in the taking of an honourable and innocent life. We see that the Colonial period witch trials in New England, the intrusive fear and subversion of the Macarthy era, and how post millenial ideologies, that qualified, spite, jealousy, envy and hatred never changes.

2:19 "The play is dealing w the disintegration of a society. It's a play about paranoia and hysteria. And I imagine that people are reacting to it bc they feel similar things now. Mainly, that an attack can come from anywhere, which is what was happening in Salem..."
