Lord Scargill has been there a few years now. i don't agree with his politics or his methods but he stood up for what he thought was right, and that is admiral. But when he got into the 'Lords' i thought he sold his soul.

On the contrary. I was also at the previous strike, probably before you were even weaned. Same bully-boy tactics then too. Scargill left a trail of aggravation that stretched back years. He and 'Red Robbo' at Longbridge cost thousands of jobs. Not heros, just wreckers. Those sort of people never CREATED anything. They just damage and destroy. 'Lest we forget.'

Arthur may be on the left but he is always right and history demonstrates that. We should listen now and open mines to produce our own coal. Thanks to barnsleylad for sharing this.

If I had been in charge at the time I would have given the mines to the Miners to operate as workers co-operatives. Mind I don't suppose that Scargill would have approved of that because when the workers are the bosses there is no place for a union.

Totally agree on the pfi- government is basically hiding a debt mountain and as a country we are living beyond our means at present. On the economic debate and the likes of Scargill we are miles apart I'm afraid.

This berk always reminds me of the description of the British Army Generals in the 1914-18 war;- 'Lions led by donkeys'....'Didn't lose'..?? What planet is he on...??? All that suffering was his responsibility.

I remember Scargill supporting the communist regimes against the free trade unions. Whatever happened to the miners, Scargill's fortune is safe.

@1middlesbrough Ironically enough, the miners' union had been the most democratic of all until Joe Gormley (Scargill's predecessor) changed things.

and now he sits in the house of Lords! don't be sucked in by fools like scargil- only out for what they can get.

Although Scargill may be an International Socialist or a Marxist, but his ideas seem to have influenced British Nationalism like the BNP of today since that is the party which wishes to reindustrialise Britain.

Thatcher was a woman of her word? Please give me strength. People used to say you knew where you were with Thatcher, you knew where you were alright you were fucked.She totally obliterated thousands of communities and left them with nothing all in the name of progress. I don't advocate violence at all but striking miners didn't need Arthur or anyone else to get worked up about those that went back to work.

Obviously I'm an ill-informed ignoramus. As if. No, it's not about grammar and spelling and punctuation, but it does help to display a little intelligence.

@petetube99 i agree the miners didnt lose , they were absolutely crushed. It was there own fault for not being democrats
@jwood3616 жыл бұрын
So you reckon that sitting on your arse and doing nothing would've worked and nice ol Maggie would've just closed the 30 pits she said would. As for encoraging violence what evidence have you got that Arthur himself encouraged it.
