You got a really nice one. I have one in Rosewood. And I have fixed blade version of the Ettrick pattern that I watched my brother make when we were kids. He needed a new 'gutty' to go poaching with. Growing up on the Scottish Borders, not too far from the Ettrick valley actually, a knife capable of dressing small game, levering crabs and the like, was called a 'little gutty'.

Nice start to a channel. Follow your interests. It is better to be a doer rather than a passive consumer.

I personally prefer carbon on traditionals because back when these were originally made it was carbon or nothing. And I agree with you on their customer service they're brilliant I asked them to put a tackler blade on a senator instead of the lambfoot and they said they will do it and now I've ordered a barlow in ebony which they don't usually make but they will make one for me I have also ordered a Ettrick in rosewood. About time Steel City Sheffield made a come back.

You have mentioned a blade batch being rejected. I wonder where those blades are being manufactured?

Not sure, actually. Perhaps they were sold off as seconds? I just don't know where.

All what's missing on that knife is fifty years of patina from being in my pocket.
