I don't even think it's part swapping anymore. I think they've built a library of parts, and if they updated the figures to modern articulation they'd need to basically throw out 3/4ths of it. It's probably not financially viable for them to do that at this point, and would be almost at the commitment level of launching a full new line. So we're stuck with great looking figures that pose like they really overdid it at the gym the day before.

Right. I heard they were thinking about going with Glyos originally, so it makes sense they prioritized easy customization/pop and swap, but even the Valiant Knight is basically carefully done to allow pop and swap with older figures. That being said they could probably at least sacrifice knee/elbow swapping and update the limbs. That said I don't think many are going into Mythic Legions expecting modern articulation, and there is something to be said about the sculpt not being broken up as much. I mean I think DC Classics still hold up as far as looks go.

@@fujishig personally I don't need full, modern articulation on them, but I do need more than what they provide. Ill say it. They're not action figures, they're designer figures. Theyre how 4H want to design them, they sell well enough to keep making them, and they have a ton of new sculpts and parts coming out in waves that are in production. No matter how much anyone wants them to be modernized or like another line. 4H are going to keep doing what sells to their main customer base. And have fun doing it.

It's ok to do their own thing but its VERY side-eye to say "oh we're not making action figures buddy, this is a designer figure". Savage Crucible is making action figures. @billybeigecustoms7 ай бұрын
@ArticulatedNinja have you ever messed glyos figures? Designer action figures, articulated, use a lot of the same parts with repaints, do limited drops and preorders. That's what this line was made to be. Originally they were going to be in that 3 3/4" - 4" scale. Even use the Glyos joint/peg system. Luckily for 1/12 fans the cost to make them in a larger scale was the same. So after re-engineering some to add hinges into places that were Originally just swivel pegs, we got 1.0 mythic legions figures and the framework for how 4H want their figures to be. Like Glyos. A fun designer figure you can mix with any figure from the line. I know you love articulation, you might even really love legions, but why would want to change basically the founding idea of a line you love, to be like everybody else? Being different is ok.

I am happy with the materials, accessories and the sculpts and really don't have any complaints about them. The articulation is definitely limited and it would be nice to have more range, but it is what it is and it isn't a dealbreaker for me personally. I got them because I really do like the looks and they are capable of some basic poses. Sometimes, for me, figures look so good that I'm willing to forego some articulation range or other features. I'm just not as much of an articulation junkie as some people, but I definitely understand the desire.

No one is saying “the articulation is perfect”. But the fans are just happy with it as is. No need to tell them to collect statues or criticize 4H for being “15 years behind.” Let them do their thing. Just like Hasbro/Mattel/Tamashii/etc do their thing. If you don’t like it, don’t collect it. You can critique it but be respectful.

I agree with you 100%. Your pictures alone sell them, though. They look cool. I think the Horsemen are more consumer focused more than most toy companies. Like, you can preorder and buy at a discount, or you can just wait and get the same figure a little more, but if you enjoy them, you can get them cheaper by just supporting the small team with a Mezco style preorder at a non-Mezco price. You've proved you can make a good display with limited articulation in this video alone with your skill. From my experience, with no extra monetary value my collection has with things like KZbin, a good collection just gets a glance from random folks anyways. Anibus chilling in the chair alone looks good and anyone with your accessories would be happy with it. You can get a statue that looks like that at the same price point of both figures, but you have control of the Horsemen figures if you're bored. Figures with a limit that is just your imagination is what Four Horsemen exceeds at and I think Legions fuels imagination even when nobody else in your life cares. Hasbro will sell a slightly off figure that you want just to sell you the same figure again with a figure that you want. The price is different for sure, but the Horsemen don't treat you like a stupid consumer. If you don't want it, don't buy it. You want some random Egyptian Gods with real-life accessories, go for it. If you don't like it, it doesn't matter. You want a popular Legions figure that's at scalper prices? Just wait, they noticed, and will sell you the same figure at a fair price later. The aftermarket have crazy weird prices, but people who just collect for profit can go screw themselves anyway. If you're in love with a figure, there's usually an easy way to get it with Legions through Discord and Facebook. Legions play with FOMO, but what other toy line plays with FOMO with a guaranteed way to get something different later after you have time to think? I think that's why they're cool. I just own 5 Legion figures so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. They're detailed and most collectors probably spent more on a line that just sits in totes now, even with amazing articulation.

I absolutely love the concept of being about to pop and swap parts, being able to essentially RPG built as a novice. He's the thing about them using the excuse for why they don't update the articulation. The observation is overseas and it's from an established company. Just look at the engineering of Mafex figures. Unlike domestic lines, the joints are separate parts from the character molds. Having 2 Spider-Mann figures or any combination of female figure I can swap the shoulders, the necks, the biceps, the feet, the abdomen, etc. It's not even something they were designed to do and yet if I did the articulation wouldn't be sacrificed. The CAN make updated bodies still compatible with the heads, hands, feet, peg in parts and waist accessories. They don't because everyone who collects them enough to go to Legions Con isn't concerned with articulation. In fact, a lot of them will complain about the improvement.

I can definitely respect your opinion. I believe it just really depends on the type of collector you are. Some of us love to customize, paint, part swap, etc. Others like to actually play with, pose, and photograph. Neither collector is better than the other, just different strokes for different folks. That being said, more articulation would be great, but if that means more paint rubs, worse sculpts, loose, bendable, and/or warpable parts, I'm fine the way they are. I recently visited the Savage Crucible venue at Comicpalooza down here in Houston. The paint apps and articulation were great., but in my honest opinion, the lizard figures did feel a bit loose and/or less sturdy. We were not allowed to touch the newer human wave, but they did look good. There was also an Animal Kingdom vendor next to Savage Crucible. With all due respect, the Animal Kingdom line looks cheap when compared to Mythic Legions. The Savage Crucible line is a step above in looks, but the feel is just a bit off for me. The owner of Savage Crucible was extremely nice, and full of info. I'm not really into lizards so I didn't make a purchase. The old me in a better economy would have just purchased something because he was so nice. Those other green orcs you showed, while the articulation is wayyy better, they just don't look as good. If they don't look good in video, it only gets worse in person. Those werewolves you always show look phenomenal but for a long time collector like me, and after seeing Animal Kingdom up close and feeling Savage Crucible in hand, I am definitely going to find it difficult to make blind purchases on line ever again. Bottom line is that they are successful, and their fans / collectors really love figures. I really enjoy the line and I find the articulation acceptable for what you get. I pick up the ones I like, and I have not been disappointed. Every line is different and speaks to different collectors. Personally, I don't need every line I collect to be super articulated. Will they make strides towards more articulation eventually, maybe. But that will mean new tooling, new sculpts, and most likely higher price points.
@ArticulatedNinja7 ай бұрын
No one's denying their success but it's no longer 10 years ago when they was the only ones to corner the mythical market. Also no one is asking for "super" articulation found in Asian companies like figuarts, mafex, figma revoltech ect) just the bare minimum average in America in 2024. Almost all American based companies in this day and age have at least double hinge not single, boot swivel , bicep swivel and butterfly joints.
@theoriginaljtp7 ай бұрын
@ArticulatedNinja it's true their articulation is lacking compared to current standards, but being as successful as they are with such a large loyal customer base, there is really no sense of urgency to change what they are doing. They've made a few baby steps with some recent figs, but I think it'll be a while until we see bigger changes if we do at all. I don't think the next year or so in pre-orders shows any real changes in the articulation.

I dig Mythic Legions just the way they are 🤷 It's just the way they chose to engineer their product. Same with Mcfarlane toys. I buy/collect Mythic Legions mostly for the look of the characters and the paint/sculpt details and soft goods. There's so many other figure options in the market right now that if one brand doesn't offer the options I want, I just buy something else. And when all else fails, I kitbash and customize it to my liking 👍 I agree with your observations 💯 but personally I just don't have the time to focus on what something could be and instead I make it into what I need 👏

Mafex has good paint apps but in terms of articulation they're basically just Legends and McFarlane DC for triple the price. The majority of their characters have great articulation because they have no costume impediments. And the armored figures from their Star Wars line have all of the same outfit limitations that the Mythics characters do but for a much higher price point. I think the only thing Mafex excels in is quality of plastic - which that and the use of some soft goods here and there is why they're so expensive.

Well spoken and spot on! It is difficult for me to justify spending the amount of money ML asks when you know you are not getting the BEST value for your dollar no matter how amazing the sculpts/paints/details are. To me spending on 2-3 Valaverse/Legions/Classics is gratifying and I already love the characters. After seeing your review on Savage Crucibles I was all in and ordered everything I could from what remained of wave 1. I do agree that 4H are satisfied with their line and they do sell well and are building a Universe of so many characters that the cost of re-tooling to improve knees elbows and shoulders isn't cost effective for them. (Can't explain their animals, they just lucked out on those and got it right). Another line with the very same issue is MacFarlane. He won't the PINS. WHYYYYYYY! Cost plain and simple besides he cranks out 200 characters a year and they get bought each several times. Look at Mercari and see how many new posts hit their daily! It's KRAY-ZEEEE!. But? We still buy them.

@@ArticulatedNinja There's quite a large difference between the changes in a Valiant Knight, and adding butterfly or double joints to all of the molds. There's also the matter of comparing Four Horsemen Studios to Hasbro, Mythic Legions have always been about part reuse because it helps save on costs. If they switch to double joints now, then all of their other molds they've made were for nothing.

The issue is that roughly 10 of the fan base that will TEAR YOU APART for talking bad about the figures. They just teased a wave and people are saying they're not excited about it or only a handful of them. People in their semi-official FB group, people that actively buy a ton of their figures. And the Mythic cultists rip them to shreds in their passive-aggressive dad jam-band way. Its so insane. I see some great poses in your video here, that show they articulate well enough, but sculpt isn't as compromised as it would be with double joints, extra swivels etc..I think they do a good job of maintaining that healthy balance...where both sculpt and articulation are prioritized.

The ogre body is a joke compared to the Xesray minotaurs which are bigger, bulkier, better looking, more accessories, move better, and cost about the same.

In my videos i usually do tons of dynamic poses not much here to do though. But that also explains why even I'm there promotional the photographer can do much but arms up and down legs ups and down. Great for standing in stoic poses though but then again a statue can do that as well.

For someone who cares so much about articulation im surprised you don't own the recent AYs, at least i dont see any videos on them 3:30 "if you care more about sculpt than articulation, go buy statues" Disagree. There are plenty of toy photographers who pose and shoot. Just because you (I also) like to put our figures in thtese crazy looking dynamic poses in scenes, doesn't mean that is everyone's cup of tea. Some collectors/photographers like to pose in more minimal poses like the one you did at 2:58, where they set up a scene and tell a story etc. Not everything is about fighting other figures. You say "can we have both? Can we meet in the middle?" Well, to Mythic Legions fans thats what they are. They believe that is what meeting in the middle is. Look at Dorklair on KZbin, Mythic is his favorite line, he certainly thinks they made the perfect balance. I know almost all of your fans basically agree with most of your points every time. Single jointed elbow or knees can have double-jointed levels of articulation if they are cut properly and have long enough joints, Hasbro has actually shown this fairly well with some of their new releases such as the Black Series Ki-Adi-Mundi for instance. Also, most double-hinged elbows won't allow for rotation and don't allow for part swapping (easily at least) at the elbow itself, but rather at the shoulder socket. Same for the knees. Pinless makes it even complicated, lol. There are pros and cons to both, and both can be fully articulated and look nice if designed and cut properly. Personally I think it comes down more to engineering and implementation more than a specific kind of joint being the limiting factor. Butterfly joints also need to be designed and cut properly to both function well and look nice.

As the person who made the largest contribution to savage crucible, i can honestly say it was because of articulation. The sculpt is amazing and the part swapping makes collecting even more fun. Not to mention, the paint is great. The characters look really good and have deep lore. Another terrific video, Ninja! I’m a casual collector of Mythic Legions. I avoided the line for years after having a horrible experience with the QC of 4H’s Gothitropolis figures. After watching some reviews, I decided to try the line and was pretty pleased with the quality of the figures I purchased. Like you, I found the articulation scheme lacking. I like posing and photographing my figures in dynamic poses and fight scenes. Mythic Legions are beautiful but very limited when posing them in anything other than very vanilla poses. I’d gladly give up some of the interchangeability for a modern articulation scheme with more ROM. I would buy more of the figures if they did this. Otherwise, I’ll continue to pretty much stick to buying just their beast figures and use them with other better-articulated figures.

To me the figures are a homage to the original Masters Of The Universe line from the 80’s. Even the articulation is similar. That’s why they reuse so many parts & have over sized proportions. Honestly they’re my favorite figure to collect due to the endless possibilities of customization/ story telling. They’ve never needed to be articulated much for me considering they mostly stay posed in static positions anyways. I say the 4H are doing it right by pleasing a certain demographic that grew up not needing much articulation & got most of the joy from the lore behind the characters.

You're not wrong about the articulation being outdated, but while I also wish it was better, I still enjoyed the line regardless. You posted this video with the intent to urge improvement, but I found it dismissive of you to tell others to just collect statues if they care about additional joints. The line has been doing well since the beginning, which means they managed to connect with a community where not everyone prioritizes articulation. Nonetheless, articulation improvements would always be welcome
@ArticulatedNinja7 ай бұрын
Thanks for enjoying it, and I understand the dismissiveness part but I still for the same they are "action figures" for a reason and not statues so I'm not saying to keep up with other places like Asia (figuarts , mafex , revoltech , figma) but they don't even keep up with the average in America. Yes they was doing well since the beginning and 10 plus years later still selling almost the same single hinge product they are doing well, but unlike 10 years ago they are no longer the only company to corner the market on mythical creatures and knights, so if they wanna keep up maybe adding some modern articulation will help it's the only area they struggle in and are literally a decade behind in.
