My Dad graduated High School just in time to go to WWII. He's long gone now, but one question I did think to ask him was "What was your favorite song?" His answer was "Stardust by Artie Shaw".

Star Dust was composed by Hoagy Carmichael in 19245...Artie Shaw made it a big favorite in the 1940's! I know...I was there! I am now 93!

And now the purple dusk of twilight time Steals across the meadows of my heart High up in the sky the little stars climb Always reminding me that we're apart You wander down the lane and far away Leaving me a song that will not die Love is now the stardust of yesterday The music of the years gone by. Sometimes I wonder, how I spend The lonely nights, Dreaming of a song The melody Haunts my reverie And I am once again with you When our love was new And each kiss an inspiration But that was long ago And now my consolation Is in the stardust of a song Besides the garden wall, when stars are bright You are in my arms The nightingale Tells his fairytale Of paradise, where roses grew Though I dream in vain In my heart it will remain My stardust melody The memory of love's refrain

I have many versions of Artie's Star Dust, this is best sounding recording. Of the collection of Star Dust played by a great number of artists, without a doubt Artie's is the best of all. Thanks for uploading.

This is NOT Artie Shaw, nor is it a recording he ever made with any band he ever assembled. It is the product of someone whose clarinet playing cannot be considered close to even being in the same ballpark of what Shaw COULD do on a clarinet. Also, the arrangement itself is a record copy transcription, (albeit a barely passable one), of the 1940 original by Shaw and arranger Lenny Hayton, but in the end some of the writing for the strings is JUST PLAIN WRONG and does not resemble the original writing as set to paper by Shaw and Hayton. If you want to hear Shaw's original with strings on which his clarinet playing DOMINATES the ensemble with emotional authority yet with the tenderness of a steel hands inside a pair of mink gloves as well as still infused with the proper sense of relaxed yet swinging "jazz" phrasing, I suggest you find another posting of the "REAL" recordings made by Shaw in 1940 and 1949. This clarinet sounds like a musician with loose dentures trying to play a clarinet who got handed the sheet music to sigh- read in a recording studio situation for which he/she was just not prepared.

It sure was not Jack Jenny on trombone either. It is Maxwell Davis and his Orchestra according to Shazam !

Amen, and thank you for the strong statement. It’s very clearly not Artie Shaw, and it’s upsetting that so many are fooled.
@ianboard5448 ай бұрын
It lacks the seductive, coy quality that Shaw achieved. Whoever this is, is much more direct and declarative.
