So glad to see this film finally getting recognized for the brilliance it is. Please dont "remake", it's perfect AS IS! ;)

What George Lucas said about THX 1138 being about the present, not really the future, can be particularly true of many dystopian future classics. That has made this specific sci-fi genre all the more motivating towards creating a better future.

I want to visit the parallel world were George Lucas didn't make star wars and went on to make more of these types of film

This film would have been successful in that parallel world.

But Star Wars is very similar to THX 1138. Take away the fun and Star Wars is basically about fighting a totalitarian government. It's THX for kids!

Star wars was his only his third movie, and hit was the last one he directed until the prequel trilogy. I get the impression that he doesn’t really enjoy it that much

For anyone wondering the music that plays at 4:46 is David Motion - Oracle
@sandytrunks11 күн бұрын
Sounds like Jean-Michel Jarre. I'm guessing that's a function of the synths that were available at the time? Or did David Motion compose 'Oracle' in the 21st Century??

Even more relevant to today than it was to the 1970s, I would imagine.

I saw this movie when I was really little . I didn't understand it at times but to me it looked like a real science fiction movie . All I knew about science fiction was that there was STAR TREK and 2001 A Space Odyssey mostly . There was a small group of either high school seniors or college kids and all I heard from them was "cool" and "far out" often . George Lucas made his small budget movie look like a more expensive film .

I recently just watched this. You have to be a fan of george lucas or understand his work in order to enjoy this movie. And i understand his thinking. Plus donald pleasence was very good in his role. And im also a sucker for 1970s dystopian films.

I remember the first time I saw that movie. I think it was on PBS. I had seen 2001 in a theater years earlier. I saw THX as a dystopian future. Visually the opposite of 2001. And to me, THX was more believable or likely an outcome of the future. But I was a teen ager. It left a deep impression, more so than 2001.

It's very similar to Klaus Schwabs vision. The only difference: Schwab sells it as a utopia.

I took film classes throughout high school and just seeing how to screen write a little short film was honestly hard to do. besides having a prick of a teacher who had a really bad temper really showed his true colors through out my high school years. How does a teacher tell you to "shut up" ?? While sharing your ideas??? That isn't no film teacher I thought teachers were supposed to influence and support your ideas but no he would shut them down no matter how simple my ideas were.

The best part of my film class was literally leaving the class not showing up. I sure did respect my teacher . A film school is supposed to have creative freedom but with a lame teacher like I had was really disappointing....

They act like every statement is political and exclude analyses on their world view and idea of good and bad when their way often leads to bad stuff. All I know is a society that deals with rapists and murderers as swiftly as the robots did that world isn't the worst totalitarian government. It just seems like they were just trying to justify their point of a society even mentioning caring for the well being of it's citizens as evil for whatever reason. I see more good than bad in this film.

With the ability of industry to provide set development in a much changed world, an artefact from the future could be a source for creativity in a remake.

The love scenes between THX (Robert Duvall) and LUH (Maggie McOmie) were shot on the then-ColorVision Studios at 4401 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Back then, they were once for the Monogram/Allied Artists pictures such as _Queen of Outer Space_ and the original _Invasion of the Body Snatchers_ if you can believe it! After _THX 1138_ came and went, the local PBS station KCET 28 Los Angeles (now part of SoCal PBS with KOCE) bought the studio in 1970 and used it for _Cosmos_ and _Visiting... with Huell Howser_ until the Church of Scientology bought the studios in 2011 after KCET began its 8-year independent streak from PBS.

Yes, lucas.. You tried to emulate a 'Kubrick style' flick.
@ActuallySanFrancisco Жыл бұрын
@@stoneystark5421 what the actual literal fuck are you talking about? THX is absolutely NOTHING like kubrick - not stylistically, nor cinematography-wise, nor in story nor in its characters either. not to mention THX predates like half of kubrick's films. i love kubrick (he's a legend) but comparing THX 1138 to a kubrick film is one of the dumbest takes i've seen online in my entire life. if anything, what kubrick did around the same time (a clockwork orange) is WAY more dated now than THX is since everything in clockwork definitely looks like it's made in the 60s/70s whereas THX looks like it could take place in some actual future. THX is 100% george lucas from a filmmaking standpoint, and it's one of the most unique films ever made. nothing kubrick made is anywhere even in the same universe.

George Lefferts wrote the original story ''Hello Tomorrow'' that was used for 2 radio shows on NBC in the 1950's ( Dimension X & X Minus 1) but you never hear anybody say this. You can find the shows here on YT. George Lucas totally stole his THX-1138 movie from an old sci-Fi radio show, and made it into a film 15-20 years later.
@ActuallySanFrancisco Жыл бұрын
yeah, no. THX obviously borrows from a lot of various source material from that to 1984 and many other things. and i guarantee you "hello tomorrow" borrowed a bunch of stuff from 1984 and other various sci-fi stories before it, too.
