Haha thanks man! I’d say you’re right calling it a Celt. I’m not the pro at identifying, but that’s what I’m calling it. The hand wear on it is pretty awesome, especially when you think of how long that took. The hours of work to get that. It’s crazy! Haha but man I assure you, my luck begins and ends with artifacts! I often laugh at the number of unfortunate events that happen to me just when out hunting! I’ve had to swim after my boat a few times.. Bugs make a direct hit on my eyeball just about every time I go out.. heck I even lost my outboard on a log a couple years back! Lol It’s honestly all worth it though!

@@Points365 oh I’m guessing it’s a some sort of a Celt, not an expert but the gut that made it was!!!! We all comment on good fortune but believe me I know the HARD work that goes with the trials of getting those artifacts all the way to the editing!!!!!! I still wish I had that luck and ground in my area!!!! I finally after a year built my electric sifter so that’s going to help me on my site!! Still have to dig very hard clay to get my goods but the sifting part will be 100 times easier!!! I’m probably shut down till spring now but at least I have proof of concept, a third rotator cuff surgery in two weeks!!! Hence the reason for the sifter and the layoff this summer!!! That’s why I’d love just to be able to surface walk what you walk!!!! Keep hammering love what you do!!!

Thanks buddy! The Celt is very similar, but not quite as nice as yours if I recall! You know how it goes though.. heartbreakers are the norm out there! I found that fillet knife randomly in the woods and thought it would be funny to share that find, since I share all my other finds. That celt was highly unusual as to the choice of material used.Most celts and axes alike that I've ever seen were made of a hardstone material that could be pecked, shaped with harder stones, then polished to a slick finish, but it appears they used Dover chert which is knappable stone and shaping would be quite a bit different than merely pulverising hits on shaping hardstone.Thus likely the reason it wasn't entirely polished but only the bit, which was no small feat for chert.That took tons of work to grind and put that bit on chert material as it is super hard and other things tend to skate off it when contact is made.I've found several crudely made flint celts but never one with that amount of grinding put into the bit.Exceptional example.
@Points365
@Points365 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the input on that piece. Polished celts aren’t something I’ve seen found around here often, so I was super excited just to find one that was ground down to a polish like that. I didn’t really realized the reasoning for that. It makes sense though, how that material just isn’t ideal to be worked like that. It makes me wonder why they went through all the trouble of working it like that? If only the artifacts could tell their story! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and info on it, it’s always welcomed and wanted!

I would think the bit/polish is possible from use in agriculture as is the case for a spade.. the more it's used in the Sand or soil the more polish it receives.. I suspect that could be the case in a lot of cells instead of use for cutting timber ect
@FlintSpall
@FlintSpall Жыл бұрын
Of course there's truly no real way of knowing exactly how and for what they used it for ,other than realize while maybe not ideal how many times have folks used pocket knives as screwdrivers, or bent screwdrivers when a pry bar would be more adequate, but humans alike acted the same way.However if sand was predominant soil type for my area I might concede the ideal of the axe receiving polish through use, but axe nor celt alike in my area when chopping into the ground would result in polish, but obvious fracturing due to all other stone materials. I do believe the polish which I believe was intention, not through use wear, was for the strengthening of the hardstone. Polish added strength.Made less porous through polish would deter other abrasives by making it harder.Thanks nonetheless for your thoughts.@@sidneybazemorejr6601

Man, I don’t know whether to thank you, or agree with you… both I guess! Haha There does seem to be an abundance of artifacts in this area, but it definitely takes hours upon hours of walking to recover them as I’m sure you know! What kills me is how so many of the artifacts I find are one good boat wave away from being washed away into the murky depths of the water, never to be seen again. The thought of that keeps me up at night! Speaking of laying out in the open… In one of my next videos, I will have a drill find that I made this summer.. just laying out in the open. Massive drill. The very first point in your video looks exactly like those that I found years ago in South Texas. Down there they are known as Langtry points and have been associated with sites dating back as long as 4000 years. Of course, there is no way of really comparing the two. Similar designs could arise independently at widely different times. Your video production is so very well done. Keep up the good work.

Thanks buddy! I haven’t been at it that long, but I’ve been at it for quite a while.. I see them at shows and online. I’ve always drooled over them because you know, you want what you can’t find! Haha I just can’t believe it finally happened. Now to check off another box on my bucket list! Haha thanks for checking out the finds man!

what a load of sweet finds! that silver coin might be a Spainish 1 real.
@Points365
@Points365 Жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy! That coin, or whatever it is, is still a mystery. I’ve looked at it under 30x magnification, under all kinds of lighting, and from every angle. It’s just too worn to make anything out on it. It did get me wanting to swing the ol metal detector though! I recorded those finds and thinking of making a video out of it. Had some nice scores with it… including a large cent!

Flint celt is awesome! I have a couple but none that large. That filet knife you found is a good one. I have a couple of those too. I don't think they make those anymore.

Thanks man! I have a few flint celts, but none that are polished. Something I’ve always admired in other peoples collections. I can’t believe I finally stumbled upon one! But that fillet knife.. haha I thought it would be funny to throw that in the mix since I throw in all the other random things I find along the way! Thanks as always buddy!

Thanks buddy, I appreciate it! Celts must not be as common around here as in your area. I don’t ever see them with a polished bit like that! I’ve always admired them in other peoples collections and hoped for the day I might find one to add to my collection! Haha thanks again man!

I would just like to say I’ve been watching you for a long time and I’ve seen you pull some amazing artifacts from the banks of that body of water but that Celt! Lawd have mercy! I’ve only found broken ones from there but never a whole one! I won’t give away the location but that body of water had some amazing craftsman navigating through there and I often try to put myself in there place when I’m spending the day piddling in my kayak. Keep on living the dream buddy! Hope to bump in to ya one day 😎 Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else and God bless

Man I really do appreciate it. People definitely take for granted that live in areas where celts are common! I definitely try not to take for granted the amazing area we live in, as I’m sure you don’t! But like you, I’ve only found broken pieces of them. I was convinced a whole one just didn’t exist around here! Haha We need to come up with a secret word so when I meet someone out there, i’ll know it’s you! I always enjoy meeting the local hunters and seeing what kind of stuff y’all are pulling! I appreciate you checking out the finds and for reaching out. I’ll be on the lookout!

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Just look for the light brown kayak with the black spray paint running down the sides that’s supposed to look kind of like camo lol. If we meet and I say the right word you’ll know. Thanks for the response and best of luck to ya, God speed 👍🏻

@@Points365 posting some time after my next video on Thursday. I have to space out my uploads during the winter because my finds get pretty scarce. Luckily for me there was a drought in the place I was visiting for thanksgiving so the lake level was wayyy low exposing points from 500ish-8000 years old 🔥

Thanks! The celt twas a beast though! Haha Where I found the celt was in an area previously searched in years past. The water was up significantly before falling enough for me to walk this area again. Low and behold there she was, just laid out there waiting on me! This particular area has never really produced for me other than a flake every now and then, which is enough for me to make it a regular stopping spot! No telling how many times it was just right below my feet in the past! Thanks as always for coming back to check out the new round of finds!

@Points365
@Points365 Жыл бұрын
I get that question often! Don’t let my calmness fool you, I definitely get over the top excited about all my finds, some more than others. I typically get it out of my system before and or after recording! I really enjoy going back and watching my recordings of past finds without hearing myself in the background. So much so that I keep my composure while recording! I had a guy yesterday accusing me of planting artifacts to record just because of my calmness. I got a good chuckle out of that and wished him well! I guess it’s just easier for some than others to hold back! Thanks for checking it out!
