Artificial Kidney Project

To help patients in need of transplants, artificial kidneys would have to function like their natural counterparts, but they wouldn’t necessarily have to look like them. With a new $1 million prize from the Kidney Innovation Accelerator, or KidneyX, a team of USC Stem Cell scientists led by Nils Lindström in collaboration with Leonardo Morsut are on a quest to build a kidney that resembles the real thing in function, but not in form.

UCSF kidney project is in a far advanced stage and has actually demonstrated success in animal trials. they are waiting for funding to start clinical trials in humans and we can expect artificial kidneys to be available by 2033 if government does not throw in new hurdles and creates unnecessary road blocks.

Would that Artificial Kidney be placed on the Exterior of the Body, or implanted on the INSIDE, to replace the actual Kidney and Location of the failed Kidney?

As I have a Kidney transplant, I'm very interested in this research. The question is can an artificial Kidney fail for the same reason our biological kidneys did?

No, you wouldn't need to take anti rejection drugs. It would work like a small dialysis machine in your body. Unfortunately, the initial technology would also only filter blood as well as a dialysis machine. So nowhere near as good as a transplant, but the technology should of course improve over time.

I agree. It's the same as the other kidney project with Shuvo. They have been talking about a artificial implantable kidney for over 20 years. Yet they haven't been able to even start human clinical trials because......drum roll please......they don't have enough money. Yet they have received Millions and Millions of dollars over the years to fund this project. It is all BS. The government will never allow this project to happen because they and Medicare would lose billions of dollars each year because less and less people would need dialysis.
